It is nearly impossible to see white text...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-11-29 at 18:35:47
The second one is possible.. I specially made the part green instead of white, whats the problem?
You mean the other space near the zealot?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2005-11-29 at 18:44:59
Also why there are those ugly holes between posts?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2005-11-29 at 22:42:41
They are just too bright. I don't want anyone to have to struggle to read text.

As for the holes... I'll make a poll later... after I finish tweaking it... for everyone's opinions.

You can always highlight, I think it's still annoying though..
I made my background go all the way to the right, I think you did that as well IP. Anyway, don't delete post backgrounds, they are cool smile.gif

It was so long ago when me and yoshi talked about the idea...
But if I remember right, it was initially his idea...
And I initally was like "omg, no, people are going to make topics look like a hideous rainbow and you won't be able to read anything"...

I'm hoping to be proved wrong.

Maybe to have post backgrounds, you'll have to buy an item from the store for like 1000 minerals to enable it. That way, new noobs would have to be subjected to hopefully good backgrounds before they try to upload ugly things ;o

Plus... it'll be another store item to aim for ;o

Simplicity will be best here...
Rexy's is very simple, yet it looks really good.

Scenery, a whole group of starcraft units, etc just doesn't work unless it's very, very faded.

There, I darkened it (second).
For some reason the jpg format is much worse the pcx format for saving big images; That picture looked bad even in my editor when I opened it.

Oh, and the 1000 minerals idea, I was thinking of something similar at school today. I think its a good idea, but I would be really annoyed by it if I had less then 1000. Wait, we will lose everything when we go to v5?
Oh well, if we do, it's worth it.

Dr.Shotgun earns a pat on the back for actually having a good post background.
Text can be seen on top of it...
It doesn't draw away all attention from the post, it's discreet...

Good job.

You probably should cut it to keep the site dial-up friendly.

Most sigs are pretty small KB wise.

Ermm, thats what I meant.. some are... -_-
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2005-12-01 at 22:10:25
They should be limited more...
It's been forever since I've been in the settings code... but I had the intentions of keeping the backgrounds 5kb-11kb per user, depending on your member group.
5 - members
7 - regulars
9 - elite
11 - staff

or something like that.

Thats so small. Who has dial up anymore anyway. i mean you can get free wifi in most major cities.

You can acutally do a lot with small space...
And you can highly compress the images as well. Backgrounds are supposed to be quite faded and darkened to allow text to be easily readable... so compressing it will actually be better for everyone.

Ya really, look at my background, it's about 50 x 80 a jpeg and fades to semi invisible.

Thanks. Oh, and BTW, if we need 1k mins for post backgrounds or whatever, do the beta testers get that free?

My background is 50x300 and its something like 7.7 Kb....
GIF has the highest compression, even over PNG.

I changed mine again, but when I found it didn't look good (because I simply increased the quality and decreased size), so tried to remove it, got an error on a white page. Just saying, until I get a new picture, I can't remove this one.

Oh, and why not go with the idea of post background has to be earned by paying for it with minerals? You'll get more space that way.

As of now you'll only be able to change it by overwriting it with another background.

I have 56K. I'm just another regular, but its not like nobody has 56k anymore.

Just a suggestion, but maybe the background image could go in the cell in which your avatar and information go? It'd require smaller images, and it would not interfere as much with your actual post content.

Also, images could be (for the post background) faded to like 10-30%, and you could have an option (to reduce filesize, dont know if it would) to have your picture pre-faded so you can have more detail/size (that is if it is less filesize)

I dont like the idea of having post backgrounds. After the release new people will come in and have pr0n backgrounds. I mean I like having it because it makes it cool but still.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-12-04 at 21:33:08
Well Fierce do you actually think that IP or any of the SEN staff would let that person get away with posting "pr0n" backgrounds....you know that they will be bannned immediately because that is just plain tupid to have backgrounds like that. But I love the idea of you can have your own Post background! Genius. wink.gif

Once the new members join yes there is a big possibility. And as you see on v4 all the staff arn't on 24/7. I'm not saying they should but I'm saying it will most likely happen. I'm not against post backgrounds I actually love them, but people will abuse it.
