I have this new sound editing system which will make 20 long songs shorter, which is needed for my current project. However it only takes mp3 and wav files and the ones im getting (From VGmusic.com) are .mid. Is there a system that can convert .mid's into mp3s or wavs?

This has nothing to do with map making.

But as far as converting mid to other things:

hi my name is ben and i'll be your guest explainor for the day, thank you biggrin.gif

direct conversion is not possible; midi isn't audio, it's more like a sheet of music for a player piano, and as a result sounds different on different hardware. yawn.gif

the only thing to do in this case is to re-record the music; you could set winamp to use a disk writer output plugin and play the midi file into a wav file, or you could be a cool guy and run a patch cable from your headphone port to your microphone port and record the whole thing with windows sound recorder (i guess that's somewhere around eighty points)

Try downloading MonkeyMedia from http://www.doanload.com/
It works like a charm for me in converting pretty much anything.

As far as what "Ben" said he's only partly right. It is possible to convert midi to wav or mp3. But not the other way around. Trying to start with a wav, and convert it into a midi simply using a some program, is like having a cake, and asking someone to turn it back into the egg and milk and sugar and everything else that it was made with.

For converting midi's to mp3, I've done it before but with a 2 step process. First I used winamp to convert the midi to wav. Go here if you need help with that:

Then converting wav to mp3, there are lots of programs that will do that for you. Here's one:

Diggidoyo thanks A LOT!! That helped wonders, only problem is when the song is longer then a minute it screws up and delays the sound in one of the speakers, I fixed it, sort of. Not like I was planning to use a 2 minute long song in a SC map anyway.

you can use winamp in the dldb... or is that .mid --> .wav only?

Mr. Ben didn't say it was impossible to convert midi to other formats, he said "direct conversion is not possible".
Midi files have to be re-recorded to be converted to other formats. Mini to wav converters basically play the midi and record the output to wav. This is indirect conversion, the resulting wav can vary depending on your hardware.

Also, it's possible to convert other sound formats to midi. You have no idea what you're talking about. Cake back into base ingredients?! Are you saying wavs are made of little midis mixed together and baked at 375F?

I just figured this guy was smart enough to type "Midi to Wav" into Google, or hell even into the URL. Oh well.

for the wav to mp3 I used google because that's a pretty straight forward process but for going from wav to midi I'd be interested to see what results you can come up with becuase I could use a program that does that.

But as far as I can tell, what I said answered his question so there's no need to try to shoot down my argument.
