[sub]I have accually had that happen to me. I was playing some RPG where the Computer and the Heros were the same color, tan I think it was. One player did not move when we started, so we assumed he went afk. After about 30 minutes of player the guy finally said. "why cannt i move my guys?" Well I remember back in the day when I was a noob and I didn't really know what was going on in StarCraft... I had an excuse, I was 7 tongue.gif. I was get like 7 marines (coincidence?) and be like oh yeah I'm owning, then get killed by like 20 goons 50 hydralisks and 100 zerglings, and it's like damn... I was doing so good.

LMAO @ Mr. Half hour.

I would say that an Islands-type map would give the terrans a distinct advantage, a very flat map would be useful for zerg (creep) and the Protoss do best with lots of choke points for Cannons.

Well I thought protoss had an advantage on those maps, I mean, terran needs to build a starport and a control tower to build a dropship, for that matters it takes;

Terran:
Command Center -> Barracks -> Factory -> Starport -> Control Tower -> Dropship

That's like 80 + 80 + 70 + 40 + 50 = 420 Seconds + - effective time


Protoss
Nexus -> Pylon (For aura) -> Gateway -> Cybertechnics Core -> Robotics Facility -> Shuttle

And that's 30 + 60 + 60 + 80 + 60 = 290 Seconds + - Effective time



This sure depends on how much minerals you mine of the effective time. Which give Protoss at least 130 seconds of extra time before Terran can drop. That's more than 2 minutes, which give them an advantage!

Well I don't know how real people play but this should give a more technic advantage. Then that you can drop DT's at a faster rate than you could build dropships with Terran.

1: zerg...overlord is the first thing they make, and they can get drop pretty fast. No, i'm not doing any "research" to get the exact seconds, waste of time,

2: terran 'can' fly buildings and land 2 rax at ur main and go M+M and screw you in like 8 minutes (happened to me, i got damn noobed that game...2 tanks woulda saved me, o well i hate dire straits)

3: toss are the WORST at island maps...gl playing snowbound or gorky...i wont even comment on the map itself, but...2 goons in a dropship. 2. maybe i'm just newb, but toss ground is what owns, in my opinion. sure, mass carrier is 'fun', but i have a rep of a 1v1 on polaris prime where mass wraith + comsat (yeah i hate 8 ground damage too) whooped some carrier+obs dude's ass.

Anyway...as for terrain...it's the way you make it. Many people claim that ridges help terran, and this is true, but...I think they should get creative. I make due (when I played random) with templar drop on ridge, and I storm his miners, etc...cannon ridge, whatever you want. Zerg, dunno sad.gif, tanks are way faster than defilers or such and even that is kinda garbage. (plague their miners/cc, follow up with some lings or something)

Island maps, every toss I play screws it up somehow. Arbs+recall help but ...so much energy and so late into the game...

But for tilesets, I don't think any gives a specific advantage, and I'd need to agree with Valug about the pointlessness of the topic itself, and it probably SHOULD be locked before we get some geniuses that say the ramps on desert are thicker and better for tanks/rines. Oops, too late. ;-/

and it's even better when i don't see a single melee map/island map by 95% of the posters in this topic. I love peoples "experience". (BTW the gay maps I have up here sux0r my nutz0r and the almost ok ones haven't been accepted yet, so don't flame me about my maps being garbage, I already know -.-)

sorry, I don't mean to be such a di¢k...

It's just from my personal experience, protoss don't do all that well...

Some zerg players work really good with like 20 overlord hydra/ling drops, or muta/devourer/guard, etc...but to be honest, I can't really think of a specific place that any race would have a real advantage. Sorry chrono, I overreacted on that first post.

Exactly why you should stick with UMS because you are leaving so many important factors out of it.

In air maps, even if toss got air 2 minutes early(which they don't with an effective force) terran can easily have sufficient defense by then so the early attack wont matter, it will be just like a 6 pool against toss.

SC is extremely balanced which is more than I can say for any other RTS with multiple differing races. The only time the game can be the slightest bit unbalanced is on bad maps and sometimes air maps.

Yeah Yenku, starcraft is pretty balanced in that regard.

Which i still don't understand how or why, but it ends up being that the best 'player' usually wins, not the race.

Somehow, when terran has a 40 hp/6 dmg unit, and toss has a 60 shield/100 hp /16 dmg unit as first things, it's somehow playing field balanced.

Even if the marine is ranged, it gets like 2 hits before the zealot is there...ANYWAY, yenku, what maps do you consider "bad"?

some home made garbage with 500 of the same looking minerals all in a row?
i wont even comment on "FA$TE$T PO§§IBLE V 4.2342337982"...and how unbalanced that makes the game, and makes toss virtually always win, in a perfect situation.

Actually I think most pro maps are quite balanced. Paradoxxx for one, is extrememly unbalanced. But maps like Nostalgia may lean a BIT towards toss (I disagree in most cases) but I think many island maps can be easy to lean towards zerg (ladder map Dire Straits). So most maps are well balanced, ones that aren't are only nit picky, like 815, Forte or Bladestorm etc...

hey, i said people CLAIM that it's a toss map.

i win 90% of TvP on that map , nice room to move tanks if you ask me. ; )

and yeah...dire straits..zerg is...the amount of times i've been lurk rushed (not recently, im not noob anymore) on that map, is pretty much the amount of fastest versions out there...and thats a DAMN lot. I dunno if island maps favor zerg though, a good terran islander can set up a few tanks for d and use drops/wraiths pretty damn nicely if they do it right (which ill be honest: i've never seen it implemented but I always hoped it was possible tongue.gif )

maybe islands do favor zerg, i gotta admit their drops are silly powerful...3/3 speed/adrenaline ling...>.< tanks dont like that.

heh, sounds good to me. last time i did that i got my ass kicked...

I went into this 7v1 comp stomp, i used to bs them all the time, and i got bad feelings when i saw 3 people of the same clan in the game as well...3 noobs, 3 clanners, me , and a comp. o boy.

As i guessed, the clanners didnt attack the comp, but played "good" , considering it's fastest (i forgot how to be a noob so i screwed it up) so the clanners were like EARN YOUR WINS NOOB! even though they saw me kill 2 of the other players. I forgot to mass cannon at my base and they cheesed me with carriers.

can't win em all, espeically on a map like that, heh.
