Thank god for pointing this out to the ignorant.

We need commercials or else there would be no TV for the general population. I agree, they can get annoying, but you should recognize their purpose. Just mute them or turn the TV off when they come on.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Commercials are great because that is where you would get all your information on the lastest gear. All commercials force you to buy something. I saw that "Stop! Turn to Burns Honda!" commercial...five times...And my friend's brother bought two cars from the store...Burns Honda is in New Jersey jsut to let you know...

Uh, did I go out and buy Doom 3 because I saw it's commercial, a year before I bought the game? No.
Quit being a tool.

If any of you noobs knew anything about Television, you would realize that your precious commercials take millions of taxpayers money, to produce and they slap them in there to make their money back.
Oh, btw... Watch TV for the whole day... If you notice: Early morning (5ish, 6ish) to probibly around 3ish (I'm estimating) commercials for working people start to appear. And from 3ish to 9 or 10ish, is when kids commercials are played (Except on Cartoon Network *Shudders*) then from 10ish PM back to 5ishAM, is just random commercials of everything...
We learned in "Design Basics" of our Digital Design and Animation course, that every add designed, is designed for certain people, and designed a certain way to catch your eye. The example that my teacher used: Kohl's Faucets.
In this example, he drew a faucet with water pouring out of it. It would hit the bottom of the picture (Wherever they stop it) and boom! Your text is right there. He explained that the reason they did that, is because when you flip the page to it, your eyes usually go to the center of the page first. If the faucet is there then they have you. The water, creates a sense of curiousity, so you follow it with your eyes down to where the text is. You read that, then look at the top of the page and now just barely realize what it is: A Kohls Faucet
Commercials use Psychology.
