I think we should have three major political parties in America. In my opinion, it's enough diversity for them to to not be truly stupid or corrupt, but stable enough to actually keep change flowing in America.
I personally think more, the better country...

There should be 3 Major Political parties per country.
Liberalists, Conservatives and the ones in between.
Political parties should be abolished.
Politicans should be abolished.
I don't believe politicians actually run anything, I believe they are puppets for the real masters of the world... but that's another story...
Anyways, the founders of the country tried their best to make a system that would avoid the formation of political parties, but they knew it was inevitable. Suppose you were to ask 100 people about a certain issue. You would get many different responses, but most of them could be categorized into two basic groups. That basic divide is what causes political parties to develop.
I'm borrowing from George Carlin on this example, but I agree with what he says on this:
If you were to strand 10 people on an island and leave supplies for them, then some of them would want to try and share so that everyone has some, while others would want to set up a system where some people own the supplies and the others must barter or buy from them. The very nature of people to be different from eachother, as well as the desire that most people have to belong to a group, make it so that the formation of groups that oppose eachother in the struggle for dominance over society inevitable.
I think it can be close minded, but if you can rally half (or more than that) of the country behind you because you know how to sell your ideas, then you are a force to be reckoned with. In short, I think that it is a necessary evil. It has a lot to do with my comments in Kellimus's "Sheep" topic, so if you read my post there then you would understand what I mean.
There shouldn't be any political parties, I like to think the same way George Washington thought.

i think there should be more then 3 parties. not like in the USA today where there are 2 huge parties and various small ones.
In Canada there are 2 big ones and 1 sort of big. Liberals Conservative = Big
NDP = sort of big. There are a lot of small parties, there is even a Marijuana Part. Their only objective is to legalize marijuana.
There should have more bigger parties because usually it is just a fight between the big ones. Or have no parties at all...
I think that there should be 3 political parties. Like what lonely_duck said, there would be enough diversity to keep people happy, but not so many that too much of the population would be unhappy because of the elected partie choices. Example: If there are three parties, A, B, and C, and A is the elceted party, the biggest percentage of the population that could be unhappy is 65%. But it's more likely that the largest possible unhappy population would be closer to half, since A is the largest. if you have A, B, C, and D, then you could much over half the population unhappy.

Politics= Poli+tic
poly=many
tics=bloodsucking creatures.
OMG THREE PARTIES CALLED TERRAN PROTOSS AND ZERG!!!
I'd say that political parties should be like corporations, where they have a variety of options to offer, and you can select which options you would like.
In other words, make anything legal, but if people are protected under something they buy from the government, they can sue/do some punishment you for what you do to violate them. The system would work more like a toll both to pay for roads rather than taxes. Enforcing it would be tricky, and my government would probably not exist for a long time, if not ever.
Of course the opposite could work, where anything you do is illegal, exept when you pay to have rights, but that would just suck for the poor people.
If I were to go by the current way we do things, I would say have as many parties as possible. This could help to make it so minorites are heard more. Although our system of government would become slower.
There shouldn't be political parties. There is nothing in the Constitution about them at all. I'd prefer independant thought over any political party. It really is sad how someone has to ally themselves with either party to succeed at all in this country's politics.
Actually, the party system was an extra addition that no one had planned. Washington was suprised (and saddened if I'm remembering correctly) that people had started to use this party system.
Naturally, I blame the bank. Because it started this.

Which means, I agree with Moose. Parties are useless; look how awesome America was back in those days.

Slavery and all, lol.
The only time it was truly great was when Thomas Jefferson got America out of debt; to have that happen again sigh...

Are we talking about Canada? Maybe.. No.. or what?
I think there should be three.

Actually, since the nation does have distinct divisions in beliefs, political and otherwise, the liberals and conservatives come to the top.
The presence of a third party (independent) is just a method for know-nothing voters to their throw away their vote, as the the third party will never gain enough votes in any state in order to gain an electoral vote.
So two, it seems, is the way to go.
Or go facist and vote for one party w00t w00t!
]I'm just kidding.
i think we need 3 political parties and all, without them I'd really have no guilt shooting you and all of people around me.
For some reason, I picked 2 because it is a tie between 1 and more than 3. So...Compromise is 2. Not too many, but not too much either.
