after hours upon hours of mapping, i've decided to give it up.
It's an RPG. The intro is set, story is in my head. It's like final fantasy games where there are random battles, but at the same time "World map" battles.
It features (or will feature):
-Day/Night function. During the night, the enemy cannot detect you unless they have a firebat, ghost, or a detecting unit.
-Enemy respawn/roam instead of just being placed there. Respawning will stop if players get too close to spawn points.
-Random battles (more precise than the tutorial one... a homemade version if you will) with 4 random battle field and six different ways to combine monsters in each battle field, and the types of monsters differenciate from area to area.
-World map battles as well
-Spells
--Mirror Image (creates images of the mind controlled creature at its location)
--Handful of Mirros (creates images of the mind controlled at caster)
--Stone Rain (Creates mutalists over the mind controlled unit)
and more spells, each based on level.
Main quest/Subques with an epic story line...
-Vehicle rental, also buying extra gas.
-Transportation purchasing.
-When inside an Inn, there are sometimes quest characters you speak to for quests.
-Little money is raised from killing, the money is randomized from 0-x. Money can only be obtained from killing human enemies and complete quests. XP is gained by killing.
-a planned prequel... that will never be born.
-random townspeople speech
Why am I giving it up? Well, plenty of reasons.
1) Takes too much time. I could geek it out in many other ways...
2) I have college soon... i wont complete it before then.
3) I just met psychic_genius and realized "Wow... how much time have I wasted?" Just by knowing how just about anything he does... it's much more creative. Maybe I should stick to writing... no more making games -_-
Anyway... if anyone wants to check out the map, here it is... I havn't added in the money system, balancing, upgrades, or anything... all I really had was the intro, random battles, and civillian speech. They say different things... and don't repeat them just because you're standing by them.
When you play, do NOT go to the refinery or the Academy, because I was going to fix the triggers, but deicded not to.
This is what was planned:
Depending what town you're in, people/buildings say different things to you. For example, in my first town, Qual-Mar, it's where you start. So for player 3 (who has spells), the people would now and then remind him he has magic powers and minimap ping places. And sometimes they'd minimap ping your iventory... ect.
There was suppose to be music in the background... rain and thunder at random. I was considering that during the rainy times, monsters would be different...
Just go outside, walk around, fight a little... and besides that, the intro are what's mostly done...
Also: Note the way I have used the sounds... it seems that a lot of people don't use this technique, original or not, though, I don't know.
Hours?
I work on maps for a few weeks before I give up...
hours each day... i woudl spend up to 5 hours a day arond 3-4 times a week right after work -_-
actually, i've come back to this map so many times, remade it so many times, it's ridiculous the amount of time i've spent on it. Each time I learn something new, I go and remake all the triggers... especially when I learned how to use the death counters -_-
Everybody gives up on maps. About 1/15 get finished. Your not so special that you get to make a thread about it.
I've never tried to make a map that was overly complex on the triggering, because I knew I would ALWAYS find something I did wrong and have to start over. Focus on writing, my man! If you show someone a neat trick, they'll only be impressed for a couple of minutes, but if you give someone a great story, they'll invest hours of their time to be with it.
Maybe it's because almost all of my maps are campaigns, but I rarely start a map that I DON'T finish. I've made over a hundred maps, and there's probably only been 4 or 5 I gave up on.

In my opinion (sorry psy) but psychic_genius isn't that talented in map making. I've knon him for quite a bit. I dont know if it's communitcation problems (he's from Spain), but he asks (well asked, rarely does he talk to me now) me how to do things a lot, without any background. It might be me, I don't know.

I don't mean just giving up on that map, but starediting as a whole... I'm not trying to be special, so quit sounding like a prick. I meant this thread for anyone who is interested in carrying on the map or maybe can find ideas from the map or whatever they can salvage. That was it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's just that i spend like 25 hours a week on the damn thing, that's pathetic...
