Thinking about a new computer...

These are my computer's current specifications:

Attached Image

As of now I would say the RAM is at about ~280 on a good day. Anf many of the games are beginning to lag my computer. I want something no more than $1,000. The part I don't know, is what to get for an average budget. I'll most likely be getting it for myself, but meh... Any suggestions?

The computer will be for only a few uses. But nonetheless.

1. Gaming
2. Music (Editing and listening)
3. Photoshop
4. Internet
5. TeH pr0n!

Anyway, those will be pretty much all of its uses...

So, here is where you come in! What should I be looking at!?

I would have suggested a Mac for all but the top item on your list. They're too expensive anyway.

Can you get an Alienware for under 1k?

Not sure. But I'll go and do a quick search. Maybe I could compile a list of computer's that I have found. And get help naroowing them down...

Off Topic:

How the hell are you Will? Been ages.

Under 1k? Hmm..

Your computer, depending on its other parts, is close to 1k...

You could get a marginally better alienware bot for under 1k (while they have $200 mail in rebate)

Why don't you just buy more RAM?
From what it looks, your computer is adequate for gaming...
I'd be satisfied with a 2.8 ghz proccessor.

Well, my computer is about 6 months too old for a regular upgrade. And the fact that I have a total of 85Gigs of Memory(Both drives) and about 35 Gigs of music... It's not too good. So, it's not only for more RAM, it's for music. Becuase I have... Lots!

But, in order for me to upgrade this computer, it would cost me around... $500 bucks. So, I thought... "Why don't I save up some more money, and buy a new computer!?"

Just grab a gig or so of ram you seem ot have a pretty good computer already. If you need a good video card go for a 6800

I haven't got to that yet. smile.gif Most likely transfer everything over to the new computer. Then go from there... Afterwards, I'll see how much it's worth, then sell it for around that price.

So you're saying that I shouldn't get a computer made by Alienware?

Build it. Find parts on the net, order them, and build it.

I can't really help with the choosing of computer, but for my birthday my brother recieved an 800$ desktop or so, after my father had searched E-bay for a long while to buy the same computer cheaper. Found exact same as the 800$ on e-bay for 200$ less, in the end saved 200$. You might find something similar if you search there for a while.

You said your computer was running slow, maybe it isn't your hardware.
You might just want to virus scan or something.

Also... Jesus, Felagund is making me want to buy a computer. sad.gif But alas, 333mhz is good enough for me.

I got an E-Machine and it works good for me I can even play Unreal 2K4 which takes quite a bit to run good and I can run it fine and my computer was only $600 biggrin.gif

I paid over $2,000 for mine and I'm expecting to replace it in about 20 months.

*Edit* I mean, late July or early August of 2007, before I head off to college. smile.gif

In 20 months it will be way outdated.

That's the problem with computers. As soon as you get one, newer crap comes out.

Pfft, you guys waste your money..
I have a 333mhz 128mb ram notebook for a computer, and I'm doing fine.

AMD Anthlon 64 FX-77 with 4GB RAM and dual 512MB SLI cards owns life.

Aurora ALX. A pretty $6000 though.

Pfft Alienware can match that and they have free shipping for now.

Oh and if you look at Alienware servers they have 2048MB RAM cards. They're like $4000 apiece though.
