Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Favourite Author!

I say Stephen King is my favourite author. Some people say he is overhyped, but to me, he just writes amazing stuff(and it shouldn't be denied!). My one true most favourite book of his... was probably the story with the least amount of violence, or... utter horror in it.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.

This book, I was reluctant to pick up at first. A story about a girl who gets lost in the woods, and fights to survive and find her way home.

Sounds crappy, right? Not really. The story takes you along for the ride, and you get to grow and evolve with her. There is horror to the story, but it's really of the unknown. What she thinks is stalking her, actually is. Bah I'm ruining the story! I like alternative styles of horror, even though I am a major "cheesy" horror fan.

Friday the 13th, starting from movie 3 and on... were cheesy and ridiculous... but I loved em! Freddy VS Jason was a movie that was announced 7 - 8 years ago, I remember looking in a magazine and seeing the article. Too bad I don't remember what mag. But since I had seen that article, I waited patiently! And was rewarded... ok.. way off topic... huh.gif

I've only read 1 King's books(Eyes of the Dragon, I believe), but that 1 that I did read was pretty good.
But then, I'm not much of a picky or precise critic when it comes to books; they're great, they're AMAZING, or they censored.gif ing SUCK! Most of which fall into great, a few less are amazing, and there are VERY few that I hate.
Now, my favorite author... well, I like Orson Scott Card's(currently want to finish his Alvin Maker Series, 'cause I finished Ender/Shadow series) books a lot.
I guess it'd be a tie between him and Piers Anthony. I've read Pier's Anthony's Apprentice Adept series and Incrnation of Immortality, and they weren't really too great, but decent enough. The Xanth series is hilarious though. That and I love puns. Puns puns puns.
I want to be punished!(Pun, pun-ished. It's kinda like being punified, except that instead you're not really being made more like a pun, but you're only having your mindframe more resembling a pun. No, wait, not resembling, using the structure of punnines for your mind to grow over and take the shape of. Which is quite different from being made more like, because in this case, your mind is being held-up by the pun-set, and is thus structularily different, right? I mean, 2 same things will have the same capabilities.)

Joseph Heller, author of Catch 22. Read it. You'll never look at war the same way.

Of course. Lots of people like Piers Anthony.
And it's EzDay2, not EZDay2. If you call me by my name and add a 2 at the end, then atleast use correct capitalization.

I agree with EzDay either a book is great or it sucks, my 2 favorite authors are Alastair Reynolds and Orson Scott Card. Both of whom write great books. Now If only I could get over this nasty habit of reading "too fast" wink.gif

Heh, I have a habit of doing that too. In small paperback books, if I really put effort into finishing a book, I average approxiamately 100 pages an hour. Of course, I usually take longer, since I don't read as fast as I can (I only do it for school stuff or really good books). Anyways....

Can't decide which authors and books to pick, so here's my two favourite ones. The first is Matthew Stover's Traitor from the New Jedi Order series. Very nice psychological thriller, and arguably the best book in the series, which isn't an easy thing to say considering the large amount of book in the series by many good authors. Thoguh the book won't make much sense to you unless you've read the previous books in the series.

The second, and equally as good, though not better, is John Ringo's Hell's Faire from the Legacy of the Aldenata series, also known as the Posleen War series. Actually, if you buy the hardcover cover, it includes a CD with all the books in the rest of the series, along with a few other books as well, and I can give them out for free legally. Basically, a war story (like you couldn't figure it out) with really cool things such as an antimatter cluster nuke/bomb and a good deal of guns. The series is basically in the very near future (actually, it starts in 2001, but meh), aliens contacts earth and tells them that earth is going to be invaded by a group of aggressive aliens called Posleen (green, lizardlike, centaur horses with guns). Problem is, the aliens are all wimps, and can barely defend themselves, so in exchange for some help to humanity (medicine, shipment of armour, high-tech devices, etc.), humans have to become soldiers for them. Anyways, everything get compicated, but that'll be ruining it.

heh, piers anthony is okay, but I pretty much saw through the whole book. I only read one though...I like the guy who was supposed to be evil but wasn't really.
hmmm who's a good author?
I like O. Henry, he is so friggin funny at sarcastic. And sort of depressing...with the people dieing and all...but a great classic writer. He writes short story

I'm reading Treasure Island right now; that's by Stevenson...sorry, I don't know his last name. Anyways, that's great too.

I like most Greek Tragedies too. Anyone ever heard of Antigone or Medea? Those are good. Medea's my roll model cool1.gif

Dante's Inferno is so SWEET. That's by, well, Dante. Its about the different levels of hell. Can you tell yet that I'm trying to read classic books? Perhaps I should read modern books...

Stephen Brust...now he is friggin hilarious! Anyone read book of Taltos? Its about this guy who owns a few illegal gambling operations, except he has an attitude problem. Its very funny.

Gene Wolfe is great as well. He wrote a book called, "Book of the New Sun." Its about a guy who used to be a journeyman in the Torturer's Guild, until he comitted the crime of mercy. The rest of the book (which is actually four books in one) is about his journeys and stuff. its pretty cool too.

Edit: haha, I guess I don't have a favorite author. Sorry.

It means:
Look into your life as it has occurred now.
Now, try to remember every time you expected a 12-year old who sits in front of his computer all day to say "Books rule!" or something similar.
Now, say which of those times was most recent.
Well, that's what it's supposed to mean.
What it generally means is "Isn't it kind of weird as hell that so-and-so of such-and-such description thinks '[insert words, thoughts, or actions here]'?"

I think this topic is supposed to be about the authors of books, and not writers of television shows. This is an example of the ignorance of today's youth - mixing up television and books.

.K Rowling and The Harry Potter series

They were ok kinda easy, but I read them way to fast. I read book#5 The order of the Phoenix in a little under 12 hours, granted I was on a 9 hour plane ride for some of that time with nothing else to do.
