I have an idea for a defense map. There are types of mazes you can choose and you have to pick em. And since everyone uses rines, goons, gols, and etc, make the mazes be made up of melee units like: Zealot : Power Zergling : Speed Firebat: Splash or other units like ultralisk, dts, archons. And it should be simple and small so it wont be much of a hassle to make like a little square. And you get civs to upgrade them or get a lurker or air units.
Is it a good idea?

Those are all too cliche things. Splash? Speed? Power? You see all of these already in your everyday defense maps. Try something else, triggered type defenses are way more interesting and way more unique. Mazes are way too boring... I wonder why people make them.

Not so, an interesting and symmetrical track makes the map interesting itself.

Oh yeah, like bring unit to beacon to kill 30 enemy guys.

The maze is an original idea atleast. you could have it that items outline the maze and you put a civilian on a beacon infront of either firebat, zergling, zealot and then use dark archon to MC an item which would replace the item with either a firebat, zergling or zealot. (of course it would cost money). You could even mimic the upgrade system from "Upgrade defense".

This idea sounds kind of cheesy. Maze Defenses are way too common. And Melee Units? How are you going to make them attack? Wouldn't they be able to wall?

They wouldnt be able to wall if you gave them to a seperate computer player or made it so that a probe (or something) is sent down the maze and if it doesnt get through in a certain amount of time then it kills some units (or something).

Walling is a melee unit's specialty... That's why they are so efficient in melee in terms of chokepoints and why we don't have melee units in defense. Good pointing that out.

lol Red. The melee units wouldn't be attacking anyways... units usually just past right through them.

Lol... yes, they tend to walk straight past the units. Im having that problem in my defense. All they do is scream past my meleers.

They are just as common as Rpgs and Bound maps besides alot of defense maps have some new things being dlisplayed in them

If you were going for the type of map where walling is exceptable while there are other routes for the comps to go (like fatalexception's "destructive defense") then meleers are great units for this defense and would often attack enemies.
