Staredit Network -> Melee Chat -> This site's outlook on melee maps...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2005-12-30 at 15:39:44
Is it just me?

Has anyone else noticed how the site is like 95% UMS? (Don't get me wrong, some of these UMS are friggen amazing, and I play UMS as well)

But...I intentionally went around posting err "bad" comments on some maps in the melee section (especially some of the garbage in pro) just to see if any err download database keeper (I'm guessing it's their job) would go around checking some of the maps and delete comments, etc...

I understand that time at the site has been pretty hectic (OMGZ THE ARCADE HAS BEEN NUKEZ0RED!!)...but SOMEONE should be looking at the melee maps section, and some of the things I don't even understand why they were accepted at all...(including some of my maps). That reminds me. Has anyone LOOKED at the melee section? I submitted 2 maps like over a week ago (so has my friend) and I'm not saying they should get on the site, I'm saying someone should be checking this and at least PMing me that my map is garbage. For like 2 weeks the downloads haven't changed in melee at all. Costal kingdoms still the newest pro, and "I could've been your daddy" is still the newest melee. I know melee map making is still basically "on the side" for this amazing site, but don't we have some people who are pretty much melee map viewers? I'm sure other people have submitted maps, and I'm sure that the staredit community cares about melee maps (at least some of us do), and before I get TOO damn long (huge post as it is), I just wanna say maybe we should vote on some willing people (who are good melee map makers) to help with submissions? Heck, I was gonna even submit my 1v1 map to that Christmas map making competition. (I named it "Staredit owes me money" because I was full of spite that night, don't hate me, I still can't come up with a name). Which reminds me (again) about that competition, you can't even judge melee maps the same way as UMS. You can include them, but no melee will be as ground breaking as some of the incredible UMS's this site has to offer. But aside from that..I submitted a few maps well over a week ago, and they can't really be in the competition if they aren't accepted, right? Anyway...points are...

¤Melee doesn't get the attention that I believe it needs.
¤We should have someone actually checking submissions (I'm sure there are a lot)
¤Melee maps should be judged on their own ground instead of next to UMS
¤That map competition is...a bit unfair to some of us. (me, so I'm self centered wink.gif )

[sub]Get in line, we have been tring to get more attention in melee for months. I have volunteered to be a mod, but I have yet to get a reply. The DLDB for melee is in ruins, mostly everything is melee. The 'Pro' area has not been touched in ages, and to get a map in normal melee takes weeks, atleast mine did. We only have a few active melee'rs on the site, you would think they would let us run it, instead of our current non-active mods. (No offense to Millinum, your a great melee mapmaker, but your not very active in this fourm.)

Well, theres my point of view on the issue.[/sub]

The mods on this site are underaged immature UMS losers, I am just here for the pie.

Oh and if you want a good melee map making site, just go to Broodwarmaps.net, its by far the best (only?) map making site in english. And if your fluent in Korean there is always mapdori.com but thats basically only for pros whereas BWMN has room for the great and noobish.

I really don't know why I hang around this site, maybe I like one or two of the people here and it keeps me connected to them.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2005-12-30 at 23:51:43
Well, good to hear some of the other people's opinions...

But I really think something must be done, and we should run that part of the database ourselves, but does any admin take us seriously?

And maybe we could get a couple melee database mods...and clean up some of the crap on the site.

ADDITION:
forgot to mention in my last post (and since im a spammer and want minerals i wont edit the other one ; ) ) that we'll lose a lot of great map makers unless we get some authorization from someone high up to fix that part of the site up a bit.

and sorry i'm so late on the issue.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2005-12-31 at 08:58:18
you don't lose minerals for edits.
I saw a feedback question on that and saw that it wasn't true.

The Mods section is in a similar situation. I think Falcon's right, maybe there should be a Mod DLDB Keeper and a Melee DLDB Keeper.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yenku on 2005-12-31 at 10:14:49
Too bad everyone is too lazy to appoint a melee mod. Plus there are only like.. 2 regulars in the forum now that terdy is gone.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2005-12-31 at 12:32:11
This site is mainly for UMS.

I'll ask Moose for stuff.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-12-31 at 13:21:52
The UMS section is just as backed up as the Melee. We aren't denying Melee attention at all, there's just a slump in approvals for the DLDB.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yenku on 2005-12-31 at 13:36:51
Uh... Mini...

Look at the maps in pro section, then look at the maps in regular and tell me if you see if anything is wrong.

No offense, but I don't think you could be any more ignorant on the issue.

[sub]Make me a melee mod and DLDB keeper for melee, Ill fix everything up.[/sub]
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2005-12-31 at 15:48:50
Alright then, I'll be honest...I haven't exactly been checking the new UMS maps out...

but even if the download accepting IS backed up, maybe that's the point. We could appoint a few of the people on this forum as melee DLDB keepers.

Then the other DLDB keepers can work on ums to speed that up, and we can handle melee ourselves. It'd be a win/win situation, if that's fine with you, moose.

People like Yenku and Chris aka shadowpaladin (which I haven't seen around) probably stopped caring about the site because of the situation that the melee (and apparently the entire DLDB) is in. (and I don't blame them, it annoys me too)We can help fix that if the people we appoint aren't total idiots and delete all the maps ; )

and for the record, I don't mean to argue. I'm just stating what I (and others) notice and aren't exactly pleased about. I'm also glad that a few important people actually noticed this post, so something can be done. (I mean come on, blizz map copies in pro when rose.of.dream's stuff is in normal? that's heresy)

Thank you. I think its about time someone has actually addressed this. How do you know of SP? He left and isn't coming back.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-01-01 at 22:50:21
wow...i thought he was still making maps here, just they weren't uploaded because of the clogged toilet effect on the DLDB.

didn't know he was leaving forever...i don't blame him though. not many people appreciate his work.

I know of shadow paladin because his maps are some of the few from this site in pro that i actually respect, among with a few others, and...i liked playing on them

not that i had any reason to leave, but one of the attracting factors of the site was to see some more things he made...too bad there really aren't any more. there's like helix, and the other one i downloaded, full circle or whatever that the one base isn't even done, huh.gif

but i just liked his maps, dl'd em all, occassionally play em on bnet when i find people that aren't fastest newbs or they're only good on LT as they memorized all the pro build orders but have no real skill, etc.

but he'll be missed, i really liked his work. and i didnt really "know" him, he was just one of the names that stuck in my mind and i havent seen for a while.

any idea where he went? is he a member on that other site you gave me? broodwarmaps? (havent been there yet) and im only adressing it because i dont wanna see good map makers screwed over because some people dont care. and hell im sure we're gonna get like 60 ppl: "LIKE OMGZ I WANNA BE MELEE MAP DLDB CMONCMCONCMON MY FRIND CAN GIT IN PRO YA!!!!!11ONE!!!EXCLAMATIONPOINT" so thats why i dont wanna specifically say what we're doing, and if we're doing anything, we need admin clearance and if moose won't allow this, then i'll probly just be here "for the pie" and use other sites for melee.

and if anyone reads this as a THREAT of losing a member, thats not the way i mean it at all, just stating a fact, and trust me, i'm nothing so it doesnt matter anyway. just my opinion.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Valug on 2006-01-02 at 01:08:13
[sub]Oh, as a minority, us melee'rs are outcasts within SEN. There won't be 60 people asking to be melee DLDB keepers. Yen and I are very active in melee, PT is very active also. decaf use to be very active, now hes not very much. And, thats about it.[/sub]
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-01-02 at 15:27:14
valug i noticed it's basically you and yenku on these melee forums.

i dunno why i've been posting so much in the past like 2 days but i am more because so many things apply

but even if there's like 4 active members, we still deserve justice. because i see so many people. look at the "Active today" list. see like the 200 that are white? they come to our site, and probably download melee maps. thats what i did for a long time, but i got an account so i could submit a few.

my point is, there's a lot of people that

1: don't care enough about the site to post. (ie, me for a damn long time till the site started getting worse and worse for what i care about most, melee)
or 2: download but don't leave comments or anything, because it's a waste of time, they just want new maps besides LT.

so even though there's only like 4 active members asking for dldb melee and mod keepers, it would benefit more than we think it would. i'm sure a bunch of people want this and just don't wanna bother asking or create a conflict by asking. and there's no harm in doing it. its 4 less people biznatching to moose so he can focus on more important things.

and now i realize you were talking about people asking to be a dldb keeper.

whoops, well at least now i have more reasons to do it even if only 4 people want it fixed wink.gif

if you ask me, i think several people should be dldb keepers and it works kinda democratically...like a map is put up for acceptance and we all vote where it should be, if it should be on the site, etc...and majority rules. same with getting rid of maps, so we cant have one person that would go around deleteing the entire database, for example.

Not that anyone would....because it's just yenku valug and a few other people that actually want to be and want this area of the site fixed. so maybe if we can get some admin to actually read this topic since moose hasn't checked it in a few days i'm sure, we could do something. (sorry if i forgot names, dont take offense)

but a regular dldb keeper would do fine for melee because no one's gonna erase the whole database like an ass would closedeyes.gif

I think that we need to make a Feedback thread about this. The last mod was approved on November 16th... this is ridiculous.

If we're going to clean up this melee situation, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to PM some of the admins and tell them to throw this in the news section so everyone who visits this site is aware.

ADDITION:
But don't listen to me, because I'm "Just here for the pie"

i HOPE that moose just has other matters to attend to. and i havent seen isolated purity recently either.

and if he puts the priority of this thread as low as i think it is, or the fact that multiple people damn well want some of their "shiz" (i typed it, it didn't center it wink.gif) accepted (or rejected for that matter), then i'm sorely dissapointed. i know he's not, but this is a major problem...

ok ok. i HOPE he's not. admins are only human ;-\.

but i get the feeling that the admins (aka the only very active admin, moose) have too much to worry about. but once we get a couple of melee dldb keepers (i hope the site is programmed to let dldb keepers only modify/accept certain areas) and a mod one too, but that's for another section. i am not denying that the mods section isn't in as a good place it should be, and it ought to be taken care of soon, right with the melee section.

i said it before and i'll say it again:

if they just make one of the few regulars in this forum a dldb keeper, blam, problem will solve itself, then the ums section can get some attention.

gotta do the same thing with the mods, which i've used a few but i'm sure there are people more passionate than me about the mods that can handle that.

Curious, is the only problem the melee DLDB? I could probably get someone to fix that if needed (I haven't looked at the state of it).

[sub]We could also use some new melee mods, people are often posting UMS stuff here, and it takes weeks to get it moved.

Sorry but, you and Millenium are hardly active in these fourms.[/sub]

It's mostly up to you guys to notify us of any problems in this forum. If you see something wrong (like spam, flame, or a thread in wrong forum) report it as cheeze said. I'm sorry that I didn't pay much attention to this forum, but we'll be sure to try to devote more time into making sure things go right. But in the mean time, you guys can help as well by reporting objectionable posts smile.gif
