Taxes are hated almost everywhere. Now state your opinions smile.gif.

I think the taxation system in the US is very poor. They force everyone to pay taxes to pay for things the people don't care about, and whenever someone wins the lottery 2/3 of the money goes to the government (Its IDIOTIC).
What if you're poor, have no kids, live in an apartment. You are forced to pay taxes, and those taxes go to pay for children, childrens hospitals, etc. YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN. YOU HAVE NONE.

I think that the government should make the fire department, all that be optional to pay for, but make it so that if you are ever in need of it but never payed the taxes for it then the service never comes. It's fair.

Taxes are used for the community to pay for things like roads and highways. They are beneficial to us, but it isn't worth it at times. They can be a hassel when paying for a taxed item but like i said, they are the only things that are basically keeping our country in order despite america's huge debt.

Forbes had the right idea. Why the hell are those fascist tax offices putting him down?

Hey dude...do you even know of the different types of taxes, what system America uses and why? I think you'd change your opinion a bit... closedeyes.gif

Taxes are what makes the government give us our freedom. Everyone hates taxes, but they want to have a good life, yes? And they are also used to buy crack for the government....

Taxes are a fundamental part of every single goverment that has and will exist.
Without them, the goverment wouldn't be able to build anything, won't be able to sustain public services like hospitals and shuch and it won't have a military.

BLISSARD[VdD]: By helping other countries, the goverment expects to get a long term payment. It may not be in the form of dircet money, but it could be via opening new trade, trade routes, labour and many other things.

I really don't know why poor people complain about taxes. We all pay a percentage of what we have in taxes and the more you have, the higher that percentage gets. Who should be really complaining is the middle class which pays a hefty tax fee and is left with very little.

*Sighs*

When this country was created, there were no taxes.

Taxes were created as a way to "get out of debt" (There is no debt, because our money is backed up by our word)

If we were not in debt, there would be no taxes; Hence, a prosperous nation where poverty would not exist.

No debt in government, government has no money becuase there are no taxes.

How will the government function? How will services be provided to citizens?

I just want to know your thinking on this, no debate needed.

i think that taxes are good on the state and community level but going to the federal government and such is dumb. most of it is wasted on really stupid stuff that doesnt need researching or funding.

taxes on buisness mostly big corperations should be raised and the taxes on the people should be lowered.

20% should go to the US government
80% should go to the state and community

the reason why our government is so big is because we funded them.

Taxes are vital to many, many things in our society - education, healthcare, transportation, etc. etc. Sure, it should be managed better (i.e. higher taxes for the rich). There's also some corruption in the form of squandering of money, and mismanagement of the economy. Our entirely ridiculous deficit is also hurting international trade, and foreign investors aren't so confident in the U.S. dollar. So, while we make ourselves more in debt, we almost exponentially make it more difficult to dig ourselves out. I'm really sad we didn't elect Gore in 2000, because I'm sure he would have been able to run this country at least half-assed. At times I feel as if Bush is actually out to ground this country into dust, and then I remember that he's not intelligent enough to be able to do it intentionally.

They are taxed more because they have more money to tax. I mean, a million dollar house has higher taxes and mortgage than a 200,000 dollar house.

[sub]The precent should not change, thats when it becomes unfair. I think how they should also plug in expenses and such too when they find the figure to tax.

A large family that is just getting by, using almost all their money to survive should not be taxed as much as a small family that makes the same amount of money, but still have extra to spare.[/sub]

I do not think that flat-rate taxation is a good idea at all. Taking the same amount from those less able to pay as from those who are most able to pay is not good for the poor.

The 'big family, big income' example cited by Valug shouldn't be valid - the government gives assistance to families with large numbers of children, so the large family with the large income will still have more money to spare compared to the small family with the small income.

e.g.
Large family earns: $50000 p.a.
Small family earns: $26000 p.a.

Large family living expenses: $20000 p.a.
Small family living expenses: $9000 p.a.

Tax on large family: 40% = $20000
Tax on small family: 25% = $6500

Child income allowance for large family: $5000
Child income allowance for small family: $0

Amount left for large family: $15000
Amount left for small family: $10500

That's how it works in the UK, anyway.

Taxes are essential to run the government, something it seems the current government does not understand. Without a primary source of income, the government cannot function.

Higher taxes on the rich are perfectly legitamised. Someone like Bill Gates can easily afford to pay a large amount of his income to the government and still have the same mansion and other things he has now.

It's funny, Republicans claim to take the high moral ground, yet they seem to be strongly against helping the poor (one of the main bases in every msjor world religion).

They don't. Tax deductions are given for many things, one of the many are children.

A society with a Low, Middle, and Upper class already disturbes equality. Your arguement is flawed because you state that taxing the rich would disturbe equality.

Like I just said: Having rich, poor, and normal, already disturbes equality, so why not tax the people who can affoard it?

Veto that crap. Flat tax, all the way. Fill out a postcard and send it in to the IRS. It does have a minimum income, for the record, I think its 32k and below don't have to pay tax. Why are those stupid tax companies putting him down?

That's right. The common man really doesn't have a voice in government... which is a shame. The rich have the voices to tell the public what is happening, and what the common person thinks isn't really circulated.

Neither are the voices of wisdom, logic, or morality, but such is America anymore.
