Any suggestions on a DLDB Keeper? Or do I have to run through a whole application thing. Maybe we should build a civil service exam. Anyway, let's get a brainstorm going.

No applications please. We don't want hundreds of people swarming in for the job.

My choices:

Cheeze
Kenoli
Voyager(some random numbers)(MM)

Actually Beer, now that you mention it, I highly suggest Kenoli.

He's one of the most competent people on Starcraft that I know. And he's homeschooled or something so he has access to SC at just about any time.

Personally, I don't want to get involved in DLDB for er.. time.. ing... reasons. tongue.gif
I'm willing to maybe organize the melee but that's probably it.

While we're on the topic, I suggest we do something about Bounds.

Let's be truthful. Nobody plays 'em, and they take up time and space to approve. Either put a once a submission limit or eliminate them all together. 2 hours maps rarely turn out to be good, and we've seen as much SC mapping innovations as there are for Bounds.

Just hearing your opinions first before making a poll in Garbage.

Haha! I agree with PCFredZ on that, I am often found perplexed as to which bounds to let in and which to exclude. They all seem to just be the average picture with some explosions going on.

Sometimes when my friend is bored. He'll go to the bound section and download a few to play.

When approving bounds, make sure they are clean. That is all.

Amen.

I'd like to question Kenoli's activeness? I rarely ever see him. I agree with the others.

About the bounds, we should try to keep them all, as LW said, check them for innapropriate content. It takes about 30 seconds on each bound to see if it is okay.

As it has been said in the above two posts, we can't remove bounds just because of our personal interests. Many people plat bounds as you can see by the vast number of those types of maps and even we take a laugh out of our terrible terrible bounding skills.

Just because people make a ton of them doesn't mean people play a ton of them. dry.gif

If I was supposed to get rid of things for that reason, there'd be a LOT more out of here than bounds. wink.gif

At least with Defenses and Arenas people will strive to make new things. Only thing new in Bounds I've seen are different pictures.

Somewhere in all the discussion on bounds and what we do and don't allow into the DLDB we lost the focus on hiring some new people.

Hello everyone. Moose just hired me as a DLDB keeper. I hope I can do my job well and live up to my title. smile.gif

I had no problems with the member nominated, all good choices.

However, I have another complaint. Every once in a while I see wav files submitted that are, in a word, stupid. Very pointless stuff, or just random speech segments from movies. Simply these to go under "Other Sounds" will just take up space.

Perhaps a more thorough guideline for general submission should be written up? E.g., give examples of what should go under each subsection, and what should not be submitted.

I can start us off: Avoid submitting unfinished maps (use forums for them), or if they are submitted, do not resubmit a new one when the final version comes out. Avoid submitting sounds that are long dialogues. Go easy on the bounds. tongue.gif Etc.

So, you already know how to manage through the DLDB Admin Section?

Yep. I already got a few files approved.

I thought my post count was rising suspiciously fast... I'll be sure to mass approve them from now on.

No wonder my posts have suddenly jumped by like 20 in one day tongue.gif

So I've been leeching post counts out of the DLDB for over a year? Sweet!

I couldn't find what did that. Though, with the experience I have now, I probably could.

Voy has another DLDB question: can mods be chosen for the Map Spotlight?

Physically, yes; however, people might start complaining about it.

Just make sure you put (MOD) in front of it or mark it somehow, because people will expect it to be a UMS map.

Check out my news post.

What do you guys think of this idea?

I'd really like to retire for real, but I'll stick around until the rules get finalized.
