what would be the best example of microing (in any rts game) at its optimum?
my ex for sc:
1 marine and 2 medics vs 10 lings (controlled by comp XD) there must be unwalkable terrain near by
1. u lure the lings to the unwalkable terrain 2. u surround your rine with the 2 meds, making the lings attack u either one by one or 2 by 2 3. pwn em all
yea it sucks but its still keeping my guy alive

first off i highly doubt ur guys would survive either way...10 lings pwn 1 marine, two meds would only slow the enivitable. Second off...im not quite sure what you mean by best ex of microing.

Well, if you are against computers, this would work nearly every time. Against players, they would eat the meds first.

microing is controlling your units so that they survive and deal damage in an effective way
if you had a marine up against a high cliff and had 2 medics surrounding it to keep the rine from getting hit too much, dont u think one marine will pwn 10 lings?

10 lings...thats like 60 dmg/sec to anything, ur marine and meds would get pumbled!

maybe u dont know leik teh fisix of starcraft
when ur attacking a comp, they go for the attacker first and then deal with the nonattacker(s) when ur one marine is against a wall, the lings cant totally surround it when 2 medics are against the marine, even less lings can surround the marine
get the picture?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2006-01-04 at 23:58:29
let me explain it better ice warrior:
as you can see in the image the medics act as a wall for the marine.
in normal computer AI the priority is units that can attack, non attacking units are secondary.
so the zerglings will run around in circles while the marine attacks them
however in random suicide AI the zerglings will attack all units
get it now?

ty sie for clearing that up, and may all n00bs who still do not understand burn in hell for all eternity now post your micro!!!

u get 2 hydra's and 1 defiler vs 6 zealots, all perfectly clear and walkable terrain, and your defiler can use plague and dark swarm. you use plague on the zlots and have the hydras attackg 1 of them and just keep using a hit and run technique.

there are thousands of combinations for microing. it mainly depends on these factors:
races enemy environment units
i play impossible scen, block the gate, etc.
im a micro manage master sounds like im bragging.....
you cannot simply post a strategy and expect people with no training or knowledge to duplicate it. they must understand concussion and explosive damages as well as unit AI range etc.

My ex:
The Attack-Move command.
No, really:
I have won SO many 3v1 Melee games using 1 Arbiter (w. stasis), 2 Carriers and 1 Observer. You place the Carriers just outside the range of the AI's static defence, but just within your Arbiter's cloaking field, and slowly plough through their base, using stasis if they get too much for you. I've also found it useful to have an Arbiter inside your base to Recall them if they get badly damaged.

you probably lost more then you won, it takes too long to get carriers, dragoon/zlot/high temp/dt combo is much more effective.

Actually, I won more than I lost. I harassed them constantly with Zealots, and then with Dragoon/HT combo (I would have a DT at their choke points, and send out a HT with a few Dragoons to intercept them (the AI will ALWAYS pull back their forces when even one unit is killed before they reach their destination)). I would send my little force when in it was ready.

we are talking about computers here.... they can be pretty dumb at times

that makes more sense, but with all your strategy coming togeather , it seems you must have problems with PSI?

computers are always dumb, if you play a melee against a computer, they will rush you, and if it doesnt work(that 10% of those nubs out there that lose to 1 comp, also no offense to anyone =\) they're screwed, once you attack and u hit their base its over. u'll maul the heck out of them.

My favorite thing to do is get a fast unit (like a Zergling), run past a Spider Mine and drag it near enemy forces and then let it kill me. (And some of their force. )

Sweetest micro skills: Have a zergling at the top of a flight of stairs, have a reaver at the bottom. Run the zergling back and forth from the top of the wall to the nook where the staris meet the wall. The reaver will fire at the nook, and the scarabs aren't smart enough to follow the ling up the stairs. Reaver runs out of ammo, zergling runs up and kills reaver. All because of micro.

heres a good one for pvp.
lay a mine field and lure units onto mine field.
since some units have fast reactions and range they will kill the spider mines right?
to overcome this you ally them while they are on top of the mine field unally mines pop out from under.... BOOM

If you want to show off, do this:
1 Dragoon (you, no upgrades)
20 Zerglings (comp, no upgrades)

Silly no-0b...
Rantent, you better hope that they don't rebuild Scarabs while you're doing that. Otherwise you'll be there for a while.

That's just a cheese strategy. It's called "Allied Mine."
