That's made by the same company :/
Yeah Cloud FF isn't THAT great. Sure the stories are cool, and ther character devolpment is nice, but the series is so much the same. They're using the same attack system from FF3 in FF10-2. The new one is suppose to have a change but it's not far off from what they have already.

There are barley any other RPGs out now that are not created by Sqaure Enix so nothing can stand up against it since they're the only RPGs out now. Which is a shame.

Fable is awesome. The whole wild arms series was pretty cool, too.

If you want to dig, Baldurs Gate I & II easily beat the FF games in both scope, story, and gameplay. At least with Baldurs gate I can choose Turn Based, Real Time(Still based on counters but it is real time), then KotOR style which it is turn based but looks real time. Not to mention you have 5 difficulties and online play which don't exist anymore since they are both dated.

Another RPG that can hurdle FF games is Elder Scrolls III, though the story is defunct and hard to follow it is the most free roaming RPG ever. You want to go somewhere you can but don't think you can defeat the enemies unless your a thief and sneak by them in the shadows. The combat was real time but still based on counters. The Scope of the game is just amazing.

Remember these are my opinions and are based on my prefrences, yours may very.

skies of arcadia

now theres a RPG that has a very good storyline. the graphics are not superb but its not blocky or crappy looking. its a very good game

Legend of Zelda: wind waker

this was a pretty good RPG having everything that youd expect with a zelda game.

Fire Emblem

this is a good RPG i have a topic on it somewhere in this forum

i like RPGs that have the old school style back in the SNES/PS days

When you say "stand up to FF" it's your opinion that FF is better than several other games.

ASSUMING that you think FF is better, you have to tell us in what way.

Do you enjoy the plot? Do you enjoy the characters? Do you enjoy the art design? Do you enjoy the battle system? Do you enjoy the music?

In what way do you think FF is better than other games?

I played FF7 a bit, but I did not enjoy randomly warping into battle areas repeatedly and just selecting attack, waiting and doing it again. So I quit.

I played and beat FF: Crystal Chronicles on the cube and I have some stuff to say. I did enjoy the presentation, meaning the graphics, art design and music. The plot wasn't as intriguing or mind blowing as Killer 7 or Second Sight, but at least I found meaning in it.

The gameplay was a... repetitive affair. You select dungeon, enter, slash enemies, open chests and fight boss and repeat. Of course, you get minigames like cart racing or cow racing, but those are just side dishes. Multiplayer however has teamwork like no other, whether it's holding the chalice or combining spells, but that doesn't change the fact you are slashing stupid enemies for hours. This was an area I did not like about the game.

When you say RPGs, I assume games where you slash enemies and probably level up, find items, etc. I don't like those as I find those repetitive. I don't like repetition. It's like your dad saying "clean your room" 5 times after he said it the first time.

The only time I will play these games is if they have a intriguing plot like Second Sight. Combat is really easy in Second Sight, but you do get many choices to choose from as well.

when i said "stand up to ff" i meant this as in the fact that about ff7,8,9,10 and even X-2 getting over a million dollars worth of sales each..and if you want me to answer your questions alright.

I do enjoy the plots, the storys are very intreaging to me.

Yes i do love the characters, every FF I've played has at least 2 really good characters.

Yes i enjoy the art design, the graphic's inhance the game even more.

I enjoyed the battle system for the following FF's - FF7, and FF10. the other ones sucked.

Yes i do love the music, it gives every game a meaning.

I see FF better then other games mostly because of the graphic's and insanely good stories they tell. also i see good games from how they're rated by websites such as gamespot.com.

Super Mario RPG (the original), FTW!!

I've never played a FF game before actually, so I can't REALLY say I know what I'm talking about. But they were all developed by Square (Enix, as it's now called).

That's not an RPG
And Ocrina of Time blows Wind Waker out of the water.

Most definately AD&D games. More specifically.. Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II. Great games, with great storylines. I also liked the gameplay.. but that isn't really why the games are so good.

Icewind Dale I & II are made by BioWare the same people that made Baldurs Gate along with Neverwinter Nights.

As for Super Mario RPG on SNES it was made by Square.

As for RPG's if we want to go SNES days then Ogre Battle. It was technically the first Strategy RPG. If I am right the one for SNES was The Black Queen it was the first American Ogre Battle. There was a Japanese one for the NES.

I know that, and might I add baldurs gate was quite fun(The AD&D at least.)
I liked Neverwinter Nights a lot too... Except the moving system, that was annoying.
Bioware and Black Isle made good RPGs smile.gif
