To configure Internet Explorer as your default Web browser, start Internet Explorer, and then click Yes when the following message is displayed:

QUOTE
Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?

By default, Internet Explorer verifies if it is the default browser each time it starts. If Internet document (HTML) files are associated with a different browser when Internet Explorer starts, Internet Explorer recognizes that it is not the default browser and prompts you to make it the default browser.

To manually configure Internet Explorer as the default browser, use the steps in one of the following sections, depending upon your version of Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 2.x
1. Start Internet Explorer. On the View menu, click Options.
2. Click the Advanced tab and click to select the On startup, perform check for default browser check box.
3. Click OK.
4. Quit and re-start Internet Explorer. Then when you are prompted to make it the default browser, click Yes.

Internet Explorer 3.x, 4.x, 5.x
1. Open Control Panel and double-click Internet Options.
2. Click the Programs tab.
3. Click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box.
4. Click OK.
5. Start Internet Explorer and when you are prompted to make it the default browser, click Yes.

I don't want that "Choose program from list" thing to come out... I want it to be default internet explorer so 2 clicks is all it takes...

Then you check the box that says "Always use selected program."

Why the hell would you want something that is not secure, and allows Spy-ware/Ad-Ware freely into your computer?

Along with mallicious scripts?

'Tis not working. Just to tell you:
-"always select" resets whenever you open file again.
-that site did not help
-The type of file is an internet shortcut

How dumb must you be.

This is what i do.

Open my documents, you need a button that has a ie button on it, once my documents is open hit the button. Once that text box pops up select it. Than boom your good. if you dont have a ie button THIS will NOT work.

http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/Netscap..._ie-n7x.html#ie

If your trying to make local html files open with it:

Open My Computer
Tools> Folder Options
Click the File Types Tab
Find the extentions you want to change, click it, hit change
Make sure the "Always use this program" (Something like that) is checked.
Hit OK, Apply.

Check on yours. There should be ones w/ (NONE) on them. Click one of those. You can't change what it opens w/...

THe only ones that should have (NONE) are system loaded files, like AUDIOCD, DVD, URLS (Open the default browser), ect. They can't be changed because of that.

If you are talking about loading like, url shortcuts from your computer, you need to set your default browser. Use the link in my other post.

If you are doing it for HTML files, you migh tneed to change it, although setting IE as your default browser will probably do it. I'm too lazy to check.

Is there a way to like... recreate the installing of IE? Cuz, that internet explorer asking you default, what are the conditions of that popping up? It never pops up. When I open up internet shortcut, it says "Don't know wut to open it up w/. Chooes a file." I choose a file. I check always select. Next time i try the same file, it doen't work. I see a humongous bug, i may complain to hp or Best buy...
