I think a really good mod maker (who is extremely skilled and dedicated) should attempt to make a WW2 mod out of StarCraft. Now correct me if Im wrong in saying there are no full conversition WW2 mods out there for sc?

Just an idea.

that would rock! have land mines... mg42s bunkers. nice idea.

That would be a cool mod... but where would someone get sprites for the characters without having to take tons of time to make them? It would be very time consuming, but good idea.

Would it play like a REAL war game where the units have around 600 hp and do around 12 damage?

I'm talking more like Civil war on Starcraft.
With artillery and cavalry.. smile.gif and wc3 units have more than 10 damage most of the time.
In the civil war, most rifles were rather inaccurate from far away.

holy shiz...you play civil war?

no one even understands that game let alone enjoys it...(except me wink.gif )

and yea, that would be more like that. And actually, wc3 footman does 12-13...(i think). just a lil more than 10 smile.gif

but ww2...machine gun >>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything on 2 legs.

tanks though, maybe you could make them mostly invulnerable to small arms fire?

Yeah, but they're rather inaccurate.
And yes I play war games.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-01-15 at 01:16:57
yes inaccurate but when they're shoot 900 rounds a minute...

=/

ah well, point was, it would be cool if someone modded that.

How would you simulate the innaccuracy?

With creative iscripting. smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-01-15 at 11:31:32
Man, this is 1000% easier on Warcraft 3.
It'd be so easy to make Infantry weak against armored vehicles...
Bah, it'd be so easy!! You could probabaly use the attack ground feature for tanks and their fire. Or you could make a side spell, while your normal spell could be a machine guns.. Oh the possibilities.. Too bad this is a Starcraft site.

Yeah this is a good idea. If only i could mod make tongue.gif It would be cool they could put army guys and stuff it would be sick.(Awsome)

for weak infantry gainst tanks why dont u make tanks have like 500 health and enough armor so that infantry do 1 dmg to it (and add regen health to the tank)

i think that would work

Couldn't some1 just make the unit mods and we could all just use our imagination?

You get back what you put in.
More work = better mod.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Javaboy on 2006-01-17 at 17:46:40
Make the infantry attacks concussive so they do less damage to large targets (tanks an artillery). I wish I could get some sprites from the pc game Blitzkrieg becuase they have all the units you would need in any WW2 SC mod.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-01-17 at 21:29:18
That's what they do in war games as it is, but I don't think it's that good of a system, and I think modding could change that with iscripting I hear.
I still don't know how to simulate missing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-01-17 at 22:20:36
I'm not really a modder...(always wanted to be but i'm really bad at it)...but

i know starcraft has % chance to hit certain units in certain conditions...
like under a tree or on high ground.

is there a way to try to get those to apply to entire units or something? maybe there is , maybe there's not, i'm sure SOMEONE already thought of that someplace. but just an idea, if you could get that on a unit's attack, or if you could find a way to apply it to a location or something...

but i'm sure you already thought of that =/. o well

And then you'd have to factor distance. And maybe even friendly fire!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2006-01-18 at 06:39:31
There is a way to simulate missing, you can run a random jump in the iscript (so lets say... 55/255 chance it will miss. So then, if it meets that random chance, then jump to a different offset, don't attack and display a sprite (to make it look like it attacked, but missed.)

You could even program in glancing hits and direct hits by adjusting the weapon used in different random chances.

Even on certain terrain and from certain distances?
For instance, it could be easier to hit somebody from plains up close with a machine gun, but when farther away in jungle it could be almost impossible.
Also, say if there is a line of units, and you shoot with the machinegun. It could be spray fire and hit all the units around a certain area, not just a single target.

Distances, yes. Terrains, no.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-01-18 at 15:13:28
Would you be able to do that with triggers?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Javaboy on 2006-01-18 at 17:09:12
No way unless you use EUD triggers but, becuase of the recent patches you cant even use those.
