Peoples lives are too centered around school.
Lets look at a typical monday:
I get up around 6:30 am, take a shower, go take a nap until about
7:00 and then i get ready like eating and brushing my teeth
the bus arives about 7:31
I reach shcool about 7:48
School starts at 8:00
Theres a 4 min break in between each period and theres 6 periods to a day
Lunch is 11:02 to 11:40
(they make us clean up the lunchroom instead of making hte janitor do it, making me wonder WHAT ARE THEY PAYING HIM FOR?)
School ends at 2:45
I get home about 3:20-30 pm
It takes me about an hour to do my homework
it takes me liek half in hour to get ready for the next day.
So to sum it up I spend
about 8 hours at school (excluding lunch)
2-3 hours doing homework/getting ready for school
and i have to goto bed early wasting 2 hours of my day.
soo about 13 hours our of 24 hours is wasted to the torture camp (or a school as they now call it).
Anyone else feel that school should be more efficiant as in less school hours and same amount of schooldays tothe year.
I dont agree, the only time i spend in school is the actual time im there and learning, I alomost never do homework because I do them at school or dont need to do them. so the only time it takes away from me is from when i wake up about 7 to 3 when i get home. Thats 8 hours to me and its only in the weekdays.
I think those hours are a fair thing to pay for learning usefull things. The only downside is all the time they spend on learning us usless stuff. Also school is good for meeting friends

On average, I spend about 8 hours a day doing school related activities. Right now, its more than usual becaue its summative/exam time.
but if ur class were big enuf ur teacher would only have about 2 mins to spend on each individual student each period. plus most of the time i dont get enuf class time to work on homework, and my teachers always yell at me telling me its HOMEwork for a reason.
Well I never spent that much time concerend about school except when I was there. In all my classes tests were worth much much more than homework, so I never did it and I never studied but still managed a 3.6 Gpa. We only had 4 periods (90 minutes each) a day with about 8 minutes in between each class.
So I spent around 6 hours at school sometimes less, somedays I had senior release meaning If you had a job you could leave early, which was at 12:30.
After school lets out whether it be at 12:30 or 2:45, I dont think about it till the next morning when my sleep is rudely interupted by my extremely loud alarm clock.
Even though I suspect I'll be spending a lot more time doing school related things once in college

Holy hell. I tottaly agree. They make us do that to.
I couldnt of said it better myself.

.
What do you mean clean up, sweep floors or something ?
anything less is just cleaning up your own mess...
Agreed.
I wake-up at about 5:50AM, lay in bed for about an hour doing nothing(If I don't have an hour of being awake and doing nothing, I'm tired as HELL), hoping that I don't fall asleep, getup at 6:55-7:00(on a normal day), put socks on, grab my binder, walk to busstop, get to school. I then spend 7:20-about 3:00, with upto a 30 minute variation(later only, not 30 minutes earlier than 3:00) because my bus is usualy late. I have 7 periods, 5 minutes between each. So... 7:40 minutes are spent at school. Except on fridays, in which case it's 5:40. Then, 0 hours are spent doing homework.
Heh, I'm lucky. Only that much time a day for what I learn(though, if the average 7th grader in Utah were smarter, I'd learn a lot more, because they wouldn't have to repeat lessons and ideas that I've either been told at school so many times or read somewhere or knew myself), for free food(my mom's poor), something to do besides waiting for my mom to give me computer time, socialization time, and lastly a place to find a few books to read.
I'd say it's WAY more than worth it.
Welp you guys, offically tommorow I have 1 week of school left. Its the final strech for me.
Wish me luck

School ended for me last week or so =D

I would usually have no problem with school, but it turns out that the only thing I
actually learn is history and English. That's it. The rest is either tutored to me or I learn by myself (curious...

). I have a similar schedule, and I agree that school isn't really worth it.
The school system that I agree with is the Russian/European school system:
- You spend about 4 hours total in school (including lunch)
- You learn in the first three grades in Europe than you do in the first eight grades in USA.
- Much more disciplined (and people don't fall for crap like "YO DAWG!!!111 WATS UP DA HIZZITE!!!!~!~!~``)
I have no problem with the USA in general: really, it's
much better than most other countries out there. However, it would be cool if they really shaped it up with the education system (my school looks like a dump right now... and the schools I've seen in NYC are really messed up.)

Yes, I'm a sucker. A sucker for getting a high school diploma, getting accepted into a great university program, getting a great job, and earning more in a month than you will in your entire lifetime.
Boy, now I feel so bad...

Ya, education here sucks.
I see people in the same grade as me (7th)that are clueless when it comes to negatives(numbers), but I understood them when I was still in 1st grade.
It's sickening. They actualy
removed decimals from the education system in Elementary Schools in some state because it was considered too hard \=

Wow... I'm such a sucker for having an education that matters. I'm such a sucker for a job that pays, where I don't make minimum wage and cry myself to sleep at night because my life is going nowhere.
Yoshi, don't feel bad.
EzDay2, I completely agree. The Education system(K-12) in Canada needs to be shaped up as well. I learned the same subject matter in English, French and many classes in grades 7 through 12. It's pathetic. I got grade 10 history, it was all crap I already knew.
Mathematics is just crap. I learned absolutely nothing that would help me in life since grade 8. Do I really need to know how to calculate the diameter or circumference of a circle if I have NO intentions of being some sort of engineer or mathematician? No. I could have easily graduated from High School in grade 8. However, I feel that High School is there to "help individuals" grow up. Most of us aren't ready for the "big life" at the age of 14 and 15.
School in general is a joke.

Yes, Unless you like being stupid. There are many reasons you would want to know the circumferance of a circle. Diameater is normaly given Unless you consider 2R = D a difficult equation. Or your given C and you got to solve for the diamter then you would do D = C /
π(this is basic math here)
.... I know my math. I'm not saying I don't know it, just that... I'll never ever use it. Most people never will.
They should teach us relevent crap in school. Sure I agree, give us the basic jist of all the subjects. But when it comes to some subjects(like algebra), I just cease to care. Maybe I would care more if I would use it in my job field or everyday life.
Maybe you shouldn't use something so basic as your example of something that you don't need to know.
im glad im at school because i just want to be away from my siblings there so annoying but when i dot go home its about 5 then i start making my maps.
Dont really get hw anymore end of school years
School was more or less a joke to me. I never did homework mainly because i hated the fact that it was basically an extension of school beyond its walls into your own homes. Even without it i still passed with flying colors. College is much better i spend 4 hours a day 4 days a week in the mechanics lab doing something i love doing... so i dont cinsider it school... i consider it a perk for when i get off work.
there is no point to school, the only reason i go is to make a certian girl to like me (im not telling demantrix)
Ah, school. Well, there are subjects that I learn nothing I really need and fall asleep (English comes to mind), ones that I don't NEED to learn but I do for interest reasons and fun (Computer Studies, Media Arts and Tech Design), those I work for marks (Math, Science, etc.), and those that I drag myself into (History; Accounting, which I took because I thought it was easy but it turned out to be hell).
Anyways, next year will be really fun for me. English, Functions and Relations, Data Management, Computer Studies, Tech Design, Media Arts, Physics, and Chemistry. Only thing I probably have to drag myself through is is the two math courses, english, and physics.
School takes up most of my time. Though I don't have to be at school for exams, I go to school at 9, and leave at 6-7. Why? To work on my robot for tech design, and so, I'm stuck in the same place for 9-10 hours, maybe leaving once or twice for food. But I can't complain - big machinery, sharp pointy tools, I find it fun (tholugh really exausting) to work there. Plus, it's better than sitting around and doing nothing.
They say school is to prepare us or the outside world. And prepare us for a future job to be sucessful. When the only real jobs your going to need to use any of it is if you are takin a job in that main profession. Like being a Writer... or a Chemist... then those skill coe in handy... slightly... but other then that its all useless information you could learn on your own just by growing up.

That is very true.
Though i have allready left school and i am working, Im doing ym final week of exams Starting on monday.
But here is what my day of school would have lookd like:
Wake up: 7:00 o'clock
Do eveything befor school: 7.30
leave for school: 8:00o'clock
1st Lesson: 8:50
2nd Lesson: 9:50
Brake
3rd Lesson: 11.10
4th Lesson: 12:10
Dinner
5th Lesson: 13:10
But then again i was on part time, Time table. Meaning i only do lessons i want so i droped all the crap Lessons and stuck with English, Maths, Science
So then my Time table would look like this:
Monday: 9:50 & 2:30
Tuesday: 9:50 & 2:30
Wednesday: 11:10 & 2:30
Thursday: 9:10 & 12:10 & 2:30#
Friday: 8:50 & 9:50 & 11:10
That was my new time table and it cut me alot of time.

Hell I taught myself science, english, and all that fun stuff. I used to get bored and write poems or short stories and learn how to correct my own writing. Science through the fact i was interested in the universe and through that learned the bases of earth science, biology, and chemistry. Its the stuff that interests you that your going to follow into a job. If you like science your going to teach yourself more about it at a young age just from the sheer facination of it and eventually grow up and be a scientist... me I love cars so at a young age i learned about building and repairing cars and now im a mechanic... and a damn good one at that and school didnt teach me any of it.
