what is your reason of life? do you live to buy that dream car you\'ve always wanted? because you want to experience all of what life has to offer? don\'t know? i\'d be interested in any opinions by any of you.. Yesterday I had a revelation... most people live life and plan it by going to school, etc. so they can be happy. But why happy? Why do humans prefer happiness? gahhh.. just some interesting talk I thought i\'d chat with y\'all about.
The meaning of life is to reproduce and spread your genes, ensuring maintained genetic diversity and therefore the survival of the human species.
Sounds a bit sci-fi, but that's really what it's all about, whatever façade people try to put on it.
I wish that was what it was about! That means life is about sex, and sex brings life. End of story.
But we aren't monkeys! Life is different for each person. You can't generalize that. People live for different reasons. Some people even feel they've run out of reasons to live which brings about suicide. I don't know what my reason is for living, but know I haven't yet accomplished what I want to accomplish and that is a reason in it of itself.
why cant you just make it simple? "Ok, Iam just here for a reason" Assume it. If you keep searching for reason of life, you'll never be able to find one... unless you make a compendium of things we do and don't do and what causes happiness, you'd have to study psychology, religion, and all those other things extensively to know it.

I couldn't have supplied a better example myself, Darwin's theory on Evolution.

All these issues we face with are just part of Darwin's theory on Evolution. In trying to live a better life, we have changed socially and technologically. Almost everything on trying to live a better live means that you have a higher percantage of surviving and thus have more offspring. These everyday challenges are challenges in order to live this better life.

This is like the 4th time this has been posted? lol Are they just oppinions. I mean who seriously can answer that. >.<.
this has no answer. I bet my 100 bux that even GOD don't exactly know the true meaning of life.
If you're asking yourself "What's the point in living if you're just going to die anyways?", My answer is this: "You should've thought of that before you were born."

wow... the evolutionism is playing the lead part here... The Darwinism... Natural selection... As Diggidoyo said, that means the life is all about sex, which isnt...The purpose of life is to learn how to be a good person so your karma will become good so you will no longer be forced into the cycle of reincarnation and become enlightened... If you're Buddhist.
The purpose of life is to rock hard until you are a burned-out 30 year old coke junkie who no longer has any reason to live and must now execute himself by giving a shotgun a blow job... If you're stupid.
There is no purpose to life.. If you're Discordian, Nihilist or just plain sad.
The purpose of life is to find purpose, if you're an idiot.
Personally, I find purpose in all the meaningless things I do day-to-day.

Thats definately not my only purpose. Thats simply a well accepted form of the meaning. You can have whatever meaning you wish to have.
I don't believe I've ever put "reproduce and spread my genes" on my list of long term goals. And besides its only the best species that are supposed o be able to do that. Natural selection yo.
it means everyone can make their own purpose. Ok like doodan said, "Wtf why do i even live, theres no purpose to life!", then I say "you should've thought of that before you were born, go kill yourself!"
My purpose is... to rock hard till iam 30 and blow my head with a shotgun!
I think we can make up our own goals in life, but they don't usually override our basic evolutionary purpose. Why do you think that so many priests and clergy end up getting convicted of sexual assault and the like? It's very difficult to suppress the desire (even if it isn't a conscious one) to spread your genes.
I believe that a life is only successful if it results in your genes being passed down to the next generation; it's like having a part of you live on in someone else. I have other goals too, but I think that the reasons why we create these goals are almost always related to evolution.
Example Goal: Buy a fast car.
Our reason: It will make me feel like I'm successful/I like going fast/I think it's a nice car to look at.
Subconscious reason: Nice cars can attract potential mates as they imply that the owner is successful and able to provide for a family.
Example Goal: Send my kid to University.
Our reason: I love my child and want them to have a good life.
Subconscious reason: My child will be smarter, making them more attractive to potential mates and more successful, again making them more attractive. In this way, my child will carry on my genetic line.
We might not go around acting like breeding machines, but human society is just a cover for what we're really designed for. Ultimately, the things which make us happy are things which will lead to us passing on our genes. Human life might look complex compared to the life of a mayfly, for example, but in the end all we do is eat, reproduce and die, just like all animals.
I did have another theory a while ago, but I've forgotten it at the moment.
I think it's more like "to survive" that means reproduce. I think human is seperated from animals because humans can make things "BETTER" not just adept to our enviroment.

But this cover of society matters as well. If you think about the long run, our ultimate goal is to be superseded by a better being, so that it may flourish.
You are human men and women. Maybe you were put here to be human men and women. The rest is up to you.

a "Reason for life" thread should be stickied just to prevent these new/old threads popping up
exo6yte, where did u get your avatar?
there is no designated goal, you make your own. meaning that meaning of life is your choice to make, what you do, and what you are. If you fail, well then you better keep begging for money and food.
interesting answers guys, really! Anyone wish to answer why, personally, you are still living today, and tomorrow and the next and the next and the next... ?
Me, personally, I am very interested in experiencing every aspect that life has to offer.. wether it be emotionally, physically (to a certain degree.. i would never want an arm cut off or any crap like that), and visually.. ever wonder what the northern lights look like in reality? me too. So.. what's your reason for living in this world? I personally don't think we are born with any set standard for reason of being. I think it's up to the individual to choose, which is why I think life is very creative and diverse making it even more wonderful to experience and live on!
QUOTE
You will never be happy if continue to search for what happiness consist of. You will never live, if you continue to search for what is the meaning of life
This is what i say, i think its true too. Why search for a purpose if the only purpose of life is to have a purpose?
The reason to life I think is whatever you believe. Now I know thats not that answer your looking for so I'll tell you what I believe. I believe that reason of life is to experience it. You can relate everything that will at least link back to experience something. Why would you ride a roller coster? To experience it. Why would you go on vocation to Hawaii? To experience it. The only question that has almost stumped me is why would you go to work? Some people go to experience it but some don't. So my answer was, they go to work to be able to do these experiences. Im sure you've herd the term "It was best the first time." relating to being the best as the first experience. And that is my current reason to life.
To death, to experience it.

Theres only so much to experience. Death is the natural way to end it. No one wants to commit suicide from boredom.
Scientifically - None. Either that, or to survive.
Religiously - Many different, like living a good life and reaching salvation (AKA heaven)
