All map editors are different. Just wondering what SCMDraft would be best for.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cole on 2006-01-29 at 22:35:25
In truth not one editor is better than another at one thing(except if one can't do something), it's all a simple preference really.

Some people like X-tra for Triggers, others Starforge and others Scmdraft. Alot of people like to use more than one.
Who really cares what one is better? Isn't it just good that we have all these tools each offering different ways to get to the same place to satisfy everyones cravings on how to do it?

Who cares what is better, but rather what one\what combination allows you to do your map with the best quality and speed you possibly can.

Actually, one could be better at doing something than another. For example, actually editing/using the DD2 section correctly as opposed to deleting it *cough*SF*cough*.

...to answer the poll question: I'd go with "none of the above": it's actually useful for everything except for mission briefings and custom unit triggers.

Um, if dark zerox is serious, we could have a MB pretty soon.

Actually I've never used SCMDraft that much. I use SC x-tra

x-tra is to limited and starforge was never quite finished. SCMdraft 2 might be the best by far when its done. We'll see.

If you ask me, it's the best at all of those.

Did you not look at any of the above posts? SCMD2 is good/decent for all of what you've said, and even more. Only thing it's not good for is mission briefings (and possibly triggers).

In fact, why are you even relying on popularity of features, etc. to judge some aspect of an editor? Try it out yourself.

Well it just can't do mission briefings becuase it aint programmed yet. Triggers are questionable, once all of the bugs are filtered out it'll be good.

The fact that it's not programmed yet is still not an excuse though.

What I would say is just use a mix of Editors for a effect you like. I say SCMDraft and SF for most things. SF for unit placement, SCMDraft for terrain and triggers, and lastly The original Campaign editor for the simple things.

Intricate Special Effects and Terrain Editing are what I find it better then the other editers in..

What I don't quite get is why the hell "unit placement" always goes under SF. As far as I know, it can't do unit links correctly. It can't copy units, sometimes screws up sprites, and you can't turn on various restrictions on it (meaning, see where you can and can't place it in actuality, as restricted by SC). In fact, it can't even display them under the correct pallette sometimes. The only thing SF has going for it in the "unit placement" category is the AutoStack feature, and I honestly don't find it useful for much besides stacking minerals.

All I use starforge for is mission briefing editer and mineral stacking

There needs to be an "Everything" option.

I didn't put an everything option for a reason, I mean its not that specific.

The only thing SCMDraft2 isn't better then ALL OF THE OTHER EDITERS IN EXISTANCE is editing mission briefing, and stacking minerals.
