QUOTE
Dear mods,
I was wondering whether we have a policy on what we should do about well-meaning newbs who don't really know what they're talking about.  I think that it's a bit of a problem, because they often cause unnecessary confusion when they act like they know what they're talking about, but actually don't...

I didn't want to publicly say anything to cause an argument, and I don't really want these people to be punished, since I think they mean well; but I did want to know what could be done about it, and I do find it frustrating - so I decided to report an example.

Maybe you could get back to me via PM please? Thanks for your attention.

I think we should just delete the posts that don't help answer the question.

And make a Sticky saying that "If you are not sure about your solution to solve the problem, please do not post."

Making stickies would be useless IMO; most of those people never read those things.

And deleting posts is probably a good idea, especially if the people are trying to be as verbose as possible just so that they can get minerals or post counts.

Good old in_a_bisket

It sounds reasonable, except in cases where the problem has not been researched by anyone, and where one persons guess is as good as anothers.

I would say only do it for posts which are irrelevant to the question or if we are certain (perhaps tutorial-wise, just to back up the claim) that they are incorrect.

Okay, so I'll delete pretty useless posts and keep the unresearched debate posts.
