So I was toying with an idea... what if the President of the USA was up for election every year? In my opinion, something wrong with the presidency is that the motivation for doing things is that they're up for reelection. So, what better way to keep them on their toes than to put them up for election every year? Not to mention campaign spending will probably go down, because they'll have to do it every year. And if the President is mediocre? We don't have to wait four years to get him out or wait for an impeachment (which almost never happens anyway), we just elect someone else the next year. That's my contribution to the election system.

Sounds good, the only flaw is that sometimes a year isn't enough time to pass laws and do other things that can benefit the country.

I agree, I just say it's every two years.

Less than a year. 6 months would work. You don't need to be president to get a law passed. What kind of a person thought up a olympiad system for the precidency? An evil one. Or a bear.

You could get a law passed in a day if you cut the debate and got to it. But, modern government has become so slow. Four years was a lot of time back when the Constitution was written. You may have needed a week or two just to get from Boston to New York. But, we've advanced in technology and the general pace of society... why should our government still operate on that level? (Like in Civilization 2, when the first turns span 50 years and the ones near the end only one year)

But it's very hard to pass a law, when needed, with such a restricted time.

I agree. Thousands of times more things can be done in 4 years now.

Even if it would take more than a year to implement the law, that would require him to get re-elected again, so it would be possible.

Sounds awesome. tongue.gif

Mainly because, if you are a decent President... You could just come in there, get shiz done. Get some PR, and be on with it... Put things in "Fast-Forward". bleh.gif

I dissagree. This would put stress on the goverment constantly. It would be a lot of voting of the citizens, and the US i'm sure isn't up for that. It just isn't a smart thing to do. It may be a good idea though.. i'm not sure. But i dissagree.

Filibusters also interfere w/ laws. Same with pigeon holing. They got counters for em, but they don't always work.

There's also a committee that's not needed. It's the one that schedules the dates for bills that been approved by another committee. They have the ability to stop a law by rescheduling it constantly. Making them powerful as hell. If you want to fix something, fix that.

I do agree that four years is too much, but one year is a bit too little.

In the space of a year, the president wont be able to do much. That's one budget that will probably be thrown out and redone by the next president.

I do think that we need a faster and more effecient system, but 6 months is far too short. What if we go to war and switch presidents in the middle of it? Problems.

2 years will be better.

We have a constitution that has to be upheld. Whether or not you want to change it, you can't really. Besides, the president will veto that bill so that he stays in power longer.
