Okay, here's the scenario. I want to use two monitors for my computer, sure, sounds easy enough, right? The only problem is, one of my monitors will be my laptops built in LCD. Anyway, I'm curious about all of this stuff. First off, I'm going to ask how exactly to get dual monitors to work. Secondly, I'm asking if dual monitoring works with laptops. And finally, does having two monitors running decrease computer speeds?

I don't know anything about setting up dual moniters, but I've had the chance to use a computer with 2 before. Something you can do that's really cool is stick your hand in between the moniters and move the mouse cursor back and forth through your hand. It's freaky.

Heh, and how exactly do they work? Would I be able to run.. say, calculator on one monitor, while playing Starcraft on the other? And you see, I think you need two video cards for this type of stuff, but my laptop only has one. And what about windows, does the taskbar go on both monitors?

The one I used wouldn't allow Starcraft in one with something else in the other. The computer must enter a different mode to play starcraft (don't ask me what, I'm not an expert), so it would apply to both screens. Also, the taskbar was in both screens. It's basically just a larger canvas. I was running video editing software and I would have the timeline and video display on one screen and the bins and other stuff in the other screen.

Bah, that's not what I wanted. I'm sure some software could change that though.

Dual/Quad monitors expand the area of your monitor by figuring that four 20" monitors are cheaper than a 40" monitor, but stick you with their ugly borders in the middle of your screen.
They're not designed for running... two computers or somehting like that.

I have an nvidia 128MB graphic card that I was for gaming and a built in graphic card that is 32mb or 64mb or something.. if I get a second monitor can I plug it into the slot of the cheapy card and have two seperate screens rather then 1 big screen, 1 screen for a full-screen game and the other for doing other stuff on? And maybe a key combination for switching back and both? Maybe ctrl alt tab?

My brother uses dual monitors, one to play World of Warcraft and the other to chat. He might know!

You will most likely have to get 2 computers for that and sit the moniters right next to eachother, lol.

And now I'm confused, would Starcraft play on two monitors, or would it stick to one?

Here's the deal with dual monitors with a laptop. If your laptop has a monitor output slot, plug the monitor into that. Right click on your desktop and go to 'Settings' I do believe (It's the farthest right). Right click on the faded out screen labled '2'. Click 'Enable Monitor' and position the screens such that they are relevent to the way they are situated. Click okay.
You can run full screen programs on it (starcraft, warcraft) and still see ( it's screwed up with colors etc) but you can not click over to it without Alt + Tabbing.

When I said He might know. I meant that I was going to ask him. Right now, I don't feel like asking.
