Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> What do you think about humans on earth?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kyuubi. on 2006-02-23 at 15:37:14
People's perspective I've seen would think humans destroy the planet more than it helps would agree with that. People are still chopping down trees, draining planet resources, and the like to destroy an environment, or animal spiecies or something.
Other's think we can never do much of anything to change a planet as they always come back.
So state your opinion on it.

humans have the ability to do good or evil for our planet and nature. unfortunately imperialism killed off most of the native races that were in harmony with nature. And because of greed we are taking more than mother nature can provide.

I don't think Imperialism really killed the natives off - but it introduced Capitalism and other forms of society which do not 'live in balance' with nature to their lives, replacing their original lifestyles.

Imperialism brought diseases that killed many native peoples. also some were slaughtered for thier lands, like the native americans and aboriginal peoples.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kyuubi. on 2006-02-23 at 17:26:33
Don't think that was on the right track, basically on some points, I believe humans are pretty much killing each other over resources on the planet, while other points I believe we have to co-exsist with other species to survive.
I do agree on the point about people greedy for resources...gold,oil,lumber, stuff to make a profit for themselves over destroying forests and habitats.
People back in history did bring over diseases that spread to other places. I do think in some situations we are killing ourselves as well as planet.

Yeah sorry, I was thinking of British Imperialism. It was generally less violent but more economically exploiting than, say American Imperialism in North America.

Humans are killing the planet. We will all be killed anyway 5 billion years from now when the Sun blows up and we didnt find a planet we can inhabit and DESTROY again by depleting its resources.

Hello, Humans cannot destroy the planet, because the planet will destroy us before we get to put a real indent on it.

People are scum.

Except me.
Stupid people have destroyed rainforests, killed thousands of species, destroying the ozone layer.. I just hope I'm not there when it goes over the limit.

I think we need to destroy the mako reactors because they are sucking up the life out of the planet[/LOLFUNNYJOKE]

But seriously, I agree, I just don't see how we can live without all this stuff anymore. We've becoem addicted to it. I can't imagine what happens when we run out of certain things, like oil.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2006-02-25 at 14:56:05
Hey, all our resources are going to last us for everyone on SEN's lifetime. Oil and coal take billions of years to form, and they are going to run out in about 100 years, but hey, those aren't OUR lives now, so who cares! tongue.gif

We NEED to kill the earth to live. The only problem I have is the killing of animals in the Amazon forests while chopping trees down... that's horrible.

Stop personifying the Earth. It's just a giant rock. Don't make it sound like it has feelings.

There is no way in hell the Earth will die before we do. So stop trying to protect it. It doesn't need protection. The life on it does.

As for resources, if we actually run out of resources, alternatives WILL be used.

Well, we're just continuing the geological cycle. Grow, expand, proliferate, decline, become extinct, new species arise...just like how it's been for the past 4 billion years...

UH HUMANS ARE KILLING THE PLANET. ok there's no doubt about that if there werent humans I'd tell you do-do's would not be extinct, there would be more of each species, less human waste, oh man there's so many ways that human kill the earth, using cars (bad gases pollute the environment) they brought the pine beetles to attack trees, take away rainforests for farm, Illegally poach endangered animals. Garbage dumps take up like aloooooooooooota the earth as well, there's radioactive pollution, and radioactive waste. We take water from the resorvoirs, and lakes, for hydroelectricity and hygeine our own causes. We kill animal habitats so that we can build factories, houses or any other structures. WE take away fossil fuels for our cars and heat, and home uses. Our oil pollutes the lakes rivers and seas killing off so many sea animals. OUr factories pollute air. Waste from fridges, and microwaves (once we discard them) go into the air and take away ozone, protection from the sun. We start wildfires in the forests, and take away more and more. Our wars take away more habitats including atomic bombs and nuclear bombs that bombard cities and lakes, polluting everything. Stupid children play jokes and clumsily start other bad things. We kill off animals for food, by the thousands, for eating meat and everything like that. We take away more land for agricultureal uses. We cut away forests to get wood to make tables, shelves, etc. Many people dont recycle as much as they should and they take away more and more land. We create erosion in moutains leveling our land. Man I could go on forever about this "human thing" but let's put it simply: humans do destroy the Earth bit by bit, in thousands of ways.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2006-02-27 at 19:57:36
We aren't "killing the planet." A planet is an inorganic object, like Cheezus, so therefore you can't kill it. Can you kill a stone by sucking the juices out of it? No.

We can kill everyone on earth, but not earth it self.

I don't think with or without humans, Earth would get better because of entropy. I believe that humans simply act as a catalyst.

human's are not only the dominant species, but also the greatest impact on the planet at the moment...having the abilities to change ecosystems and places to our comfort. Somehow our planet resources won't last forever...we still have an abundance of some or maybe not...how gas prices are rising...
but anyway, we would have the technology to wipe out all living habitants by blowing it up..we got nuclear and hydrogen bombs capable of destroying and changing the landscape on a whole city(thinking ww2 on japan)...we are still researching 'nuclear weapons of mass destruction' i think...

We actually have plenty of gas (Enough to last atleast 70 years), prices change as a result of the economy and politics.

We're already ruining the environment and many scientists speculate that humans will cause the next mass extinction.
