Ok...was looking around for b.net utilities and things and came across this really sweet little program called StarCraft Window....no one i have talked to seems to have heard of it, but what it does, it allows you to play SC in a window instead of full screen, and well...it worked with Brood War 1.10, but it won't work with 1.11, and i was really wanting to know if someone had a link to a working version of it for the update, or if someone could just post the program in here! that would be sweet, because it would come in very hand happy.gif

There's one called DxWnd by Skywing. Much better, but it crashes if you click the show desktop button when you're on B.Net chat. Anyways, it works with 1.11b, and it runs other programs in a window as well...

It lags really really bad, the animations are so slow, and when i'm in games, it just lags on and on and on, is there a good framerate i should set it at or does that have anything to do with it?

Well, that's one advantage us Mac users have - we can switch between full screen and window whenever we want by pressing Command-M as it is built in to the interface. happy.gif

Whoa, macs suck for games.

They kick a PC into a cocked hat for everything else. (If that's the phrase.)

Really? Even coding/cross-platform porting? confused.gif

I didn't think so. closedeyes.gif

Funny, it seems to work seemlessly on my laptop. Then again, it has a 2.2 GHz processor with 768 MB of RAM, which is really over kill if I'm just running Windowed SC. Though usually, I'd use it and have my browser open as well, along with my MSN, so I can keep track of everything else and not get bored while waiting for people to join and stuff.

Depends on what you mean.

Coding in what? Porting what to which platform?

For music and anything graphics industry related - the Mac comes out on top. Photoshop ran twice as fast on a Mac as it did on an equivalent PC...or something.

Pfft...I guess I'm saying this because I was brought up in a household of Mac users. (My dad happens to run a marketing communications firm that only uses Macs.)

The music industry is built on Macs. ProTools, which is the standard recording software used by professional producers and engineers is only available on Macs. Nothing against PCs, but my Mac is way more useful for practical applications like sequencing and production. Oh yeah, Toast (the most powerful CD-Burning/Recording/Copying software ever made) is only available on Macs, too. Plus, Macs have a built-in disk-image mounter program. Oh yeah, and the OS X interface is very inuitive and easy to use, unlike most PCs that I've used. Setting up networks is a snap. Oh yeah, there's barely any spyware for Macs (unlike PCs. I have to run Ad-Aware every few days to get rid of the multitudes of worms and trojans sneaking onto my computer through everyday use). I'm not saying PCs are bad, I'm just saying that you shouldn't judge Macs until you've tried 'em and have a basis for comparison. I only use my parents' PC for StarCraft stuff, as a matter of fact.

Why would someone want to have windowed SC?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mephisto on 2004-06-13 at 20:12:03
because w/ windowed sc you can do other stuff while you play like AIM and even surf the net w/o having to minimize sc every 2 seconds, it's quite handy!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-06-13 at 20:40:37
What's wrong with minimizing SC?
I don't have any problems. In fact, I'd PREFER full-screen.
But then, that's just me, and I'm weird.
Like anyone at SEN isn't weird...

Windowing it make a lot more strain on your video card.

[Especially if you don't have one like me. biggrin.gif]

There's nothing wrong with minimizing, it's just a hassle. I guess it's your own opinion about it though, I like it and I use it, but I don't absolutely need it.

Bah, I hate the flashing between resolution changes. Really annoying. Window SC works for normal SC, but it still doesn't work with mods and stuff. Oh well, I usually play 'em when I'm cut off from the internet, so I don't need windowed mode anyways.

Can't you just set it to different resolution and therefore view a larger screen!
