Okay so i ditched the idea of using WinMPQ manually. So i use MPQ Compactor and its working. What i cant figure out is how to change the images of units (how it looks and stuff) Using MPQ Compactor.
Use WinMPQ.
Extract the files that you want to mod (sounds like you want to mod .grp-files). Mod them. Create a new MPQ and add them to it using WinMPQ.
Why? because if i use winMPQ manually entering all that arr/ and rez/ stuff the changes dont happen in the game... So i started digging up some tutorials and i found one by BSTrhino. It said to use MPQ Compactor so i tried it and it worked.
ADDITION:
oh ya lemme rephrase my first post. i know HOW to do all the images... i just dont know how i should put it in the MPQ compactor and make it work in the game
You need to put them in the proper directory structure to replace the other files. Did you know MPQCompactor acutally uses winmpq to make the mpqs? The applying the mpq is actually running MPQDraft, choosing the mpq, and then running the game.
example, the barracks graphic is in the path:
unit\terran\tbarracks.grp
If you are adding new ones, edit images.tbl and then you can choose the location, but it needs to be set in images.dat if you do, and you'll need a proper Iscript.
I know that it uses WinMPQ... the mod works when i use MPQ Compactor but not manually using WinMPQ
So if i want to change the images i save it as images.dat and put it in the arr/ folder?
.dats go in arr... u should already know that
Not the Forward slash, a \ slash. It's above enter on my Keyboard.
i learned something new i didnt know i had this on my keyboard \\\\\/\/\/\/\/\/
well actually mpqs work like if there are a lot of folders inside (like a way of zipping the files but with folders) that why you use \ instead of / because \ its for extentions (adresses) if you don't believe me i got examples!!!!
C:\program files\starcraft\mods\corbo\pwns.exe
i see... can any1 give me a short tutorial on how to do this using the MPQ compactor.
ADDITION:
oooh i figured out why it wasnt working manually now... i was using / instead of \ thanx for your help guys... you can close this board now
you can do it yourself on the bottom left of the post there is a small option that nobody sees that says moderate topic something like it select it and close it
