Does anyone know how to extract audio files from a CD game? For instance, suppose I wanted to edit or sample the Protoss music from the starcraft CD. I'm well aware of the unit sounds that you can get, but that's not what I'm looking for. Would it be harder to extract the audio from older or newer CDs? Would doing so damage the CD's code?

Also, is asking for this against the rules? blink.gif

Thanks, but I was using starcraft as an example. I don't actually want starcraft sounds. happy.gif

I think WinMPQ can extract files from any MPQ Archive, in which are included some executable files, and probably a lot more (like .scx, .mpq itself, etc). Try it on different files in the folder.

I guess that depends on the game you want. There probably isn't any universal method.

For now, I'm interested in doing "World of Warcraft" (not sure if the music is even on the discs for WOW) and this old 94 or 95 "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" PC Game. I don't know if older games and newer games are coded differently when being put onto disc. If doing this would damage the games, then I can live without it.

World of Warcraft uses MPQs, so you should be able to get it for WinMPQ. Otherwise you might try www.vgmusic.com... ermm.gif

Wow, I never knew there was a website devoted to that. For some reason, I find that hilarious, LOL.

Thanks, though. smile.gif

For WoW, try WinMPQ.

Afraid Of The Dark might use MIDI.. I'm not sure though....
