My Question:

Where did the domain providers such as hostultra, yahoo, 1&1, and so on get the domain names? If they gotten it from a domain provider, why can't normal people buy it from them?

ICANN holds the official DNS cache for the Internet. The other companies simply deal with them for you, registering your domain in the cache. In a way, ICANN is the king of the Internet, as they set all domain naming rules and such.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned names and numbers) is only one source. THe one I can think of besides it is RIR (Regional Internet Registry) and there are probably others.

ICANN is by far the biggest, I'm pretty sure.
