Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Spyware Problem (SpyFalcon)

Okay, so the thing is this. Recently I've got this icon faking to be a symantec update popping up bubbles from the taskbar saying I've been infected by a virus. Whenever I close the bubble it keeps coming back up. If I click the bubble, it downloads a "fake" antispyware program called SpyFalcon. It attempts to scan my computer and after it's done it tells me to buy the program. If I close spyfalcon or uninstall it'll just reinstall itself at startup or if I accidentally click on the bubble. Even if I try not to click the bubble, it still changes my browser's homepage and directs me to malicious sites. It's also giving me pop ups and slowing my computer down significantly.

I tried to scan my computer with ad-aware, spyware doctor, spysweeper but they just find the SpyFalcon and deletes it. However, it doesn't delete the icon at the taskbar so the bubble continues to popup.

I also tried to search the net for manual removals, found this one about using "hijackthis" but doesn't work. Also found one using "smitRem" which apparently worked for all the people who asked on the net, but just not me. This whole thing is really messing me up. Can anyone figure out what the problem is?

I use WinXP, the log it creates from smitRem says my system is clean, but the bubble continues to come. I've spen hours trying to fix this. =\

Posting your HijackThis log on a site like http://www.spywareinfo.com/ is probably your best bet.

Yeah, I did that on a similar site. I also posted my SmitRem logfile as well. Apparently I also can't find the dxmpp.dll that the manual removal said I'd find in my system32 folder. Bah, all this is pretty messed up.

Spybot: Search and Destroy pwns AdAware. I recently had this problem, but I managed to fix it. It's pretty annoying, though. Go through all the steps in said webpage, scanning your computer for spyware every time you start your computer up. If the .dll isn't there, then don't worry.

Spybot? lmfao.gif
I used it before, it didn't even kill my IE ads.
I scanned with adaware right after spybot and it found about 350 critical objects... so you are wrong wink.gif

I have it but it doesn't find all the spyware because it's antivirus. I use adaware for that biggrin.gif

You should use PC-Cillin 2001. It's really good!

(Do not take this seriously)

Well, I would say your best bets would be the Lavasoft thing and the Spybot: Search and Destroy, both of which I use.
You could also try something like Avast, it might help.
If it doesn't go away after those 3 programs, I doubt many other things could help.
