That's been around since Day 1. I made a joke about it in a very bad map called A Day in SEN. But that's obvious because most people start threads when there map is 0% done, so they might get overwhellmed etc. I think production maps should start at least 50%.

Certain things pop up, like lack of inspiration, dedication, partner acting like an idiot, etc. But I guess you could call it a SEN curse =\

It does't just apply to SEN. This may just be where people first start noticing it. If you're working on something creative and allow too many people inside your head as you're making it, then for some STRANGE reason, you lose the energy to keep making it. I learned this years ago before I even got into map making. That's why very few people knew about my campaign until it was about 95% finished. Only tell who you ABSOLUTELY must tell.

A while back, I thought it wouldn't hurt anything to simply put a progress meter in my sig, but sure enough, the day I put a progress meter on the campaign down there, I lost the motivation to keep working and it took a couple of months to get it back. This may not apply to all people though, as some seem thrive off of the attention their work-in-production receives. But a lot of us have to be careful about who we expose our raw projects to. I think that applies to life in general, actually. "Never tell anyone about your problems unless you're sure they can help you."

I have a theory on why this happens: You tell people about some big project you're working on hoping that the concept alone will make an impression on others. Problem is, since it's still just an idea, no one can see it the way you do. When others form their own versions of what your idea might turn out like, then they start thinking theirs is correct, and they will start trying to say what they have to say through you. Most of the time, this is involuntary. I guess it's just human behavior.

For instance, I had to give a speech at my HS graduation and I asked a few teachers about what I should say, and they basically wanted me to be a messenger for what THEY thought should be heard. They wanted me to congratulate certain people that I barely knew for making it to graduation, because no one thought they would. That's grand and all, but it's not what I wanted to say. So I'll just repeat what I said earlier: "Never tell anyone about your problems unless you're sure they can help you."

I have about a 2 to 47 win ratio. Let's make it 3 now.

I'm a jinx to the curse. I use to attempt to make maps, I don't bother anymore, unless if the person said to make one for them. And what do you know, both of them vanished from battle.net, great luck I have. Well russ is still around but isn't working on maps, he plays hockey sad.gif

He is working on maps :/

As been said before there are several reasons why people stop and don't finish a map. I think two major reasons are either the person lost interest or they ran into a big problem they couldn't solve.

from experience, i do know that most of the maps being made are rpg-ish types...almost all the rpg type maps never get completed or at least a few...probably cause i know it really does take a lot of work to make it decent. Some reasons people stop on them is because they didn't see what they expected it to turn out or just don't have the time...or people just get overwhelmed by multiple projects which turns into a lot of time consuming effort or just get too lazy.
As you guys already know, people that make short maps, like arena-ish, bound/defense or other type maps are completed much more than long rpg-ish type maps

i have about 3 maps in the making, but i don't mind it. but i know its time and energy consuming. But i haven't given up on them...yet...
