ive check the tutorials, and they don't say anything about it...so would a dark archon cast this on an organic unit attacking it?i might plan on using this for a random event...or what else would it cast maelstrom on?

I think a computer controlled Dark Archon would cast Maelstrom, but it was a long time ago when I did this, so my memory may be a bit hazy. You could always just place a DA in your map and attack it, seeing whether or not it would cast Maelstrom (assuming its already researched, etc)

Yeah it would, Just make sure Maelstrom is researched and the computer player has enough Energy to cast it.

well i dont really need help doing this...i just thought this up as an idea and how it can be used on how a dark archon can cast maelstrom on units as an effect

ADDITION:
ok i've done some testing with the dark archon ai using maelstrom...

-when attacked with a melee organic unit it'll cast it on you as a counterattack and might move away
-when it's more than 2 of it's own organic units are near you when you attack the dark archon it won't cast it(will cast it anyway even if it's allies will get effected sometimes)
-running another ai seems to make it not using the ai instead it uses the one its assigned to(like junkyard dog,patrol,etc)

so this might not be anything new, but it might be useful as a stun totem...

not much except its like as if a high templar psi storms you or a random close target as a counterattack, instead it just seems to maelstrom only the target attacking it and occasionally runs away

a run ai script at location makes it not cast maelstrom, people can do more testing on this

It is IMPOSSIBLE to trigger a Dark Archon to cast any magic.

HERES WHY:
The computer game-play was designed in a specific way. Standard computer players will only use certain magic abilities, and not others.

For Instance: A computer player will cast Psionic Storm, but will not cast Hallucination - THEREFORE - You can trigger a High Templar to Storm, as it is the default computer gameplay setting.

Other units you can trigger to cast magic are:
Science Vessel: Irradiate
Wraith: Cloak
Ghost: Cloak + Lockdown
Arbiter: Statis Field
Defiler: Plague
BattleCruiser: Yamata

TRUST ME! Ive tested all these triggers and with over 300 hours map creating experience, I'm always happy to help.

on the contrary, you can make the dark archon cast its spells under certain conditions. theres already a tutorials for the rest of the abilities but i haven't seen it for maelstrom.

-dark archon can cast feedback on a unit with enough energy to kill it
-it'll mind control high level class units nearby(battlecruisers,carriers,etc)
-and for maelstrom they cast it when attacked by organic units or cast it when they see them nearby

well there are other abilities you can trigger the computer to do only on certain conditions, like make a queen patrol around an area with a damaged command center and it will infest...well there all in the tutorials
