I had this idea after reading accounts of the battles in the South Pacific from WWII. I have started a map where there is only enough land to collect minerals and gas, then to build a few starports... (One on each corner of the map) The rest of the map will be just water... Since there are no naval craft in StarCraft, I decided to put Protoss Carriers and Scouts, then to make the Protoss Carrier have high attack and armor... The object of the map would be to upgrade your ships, but to protect your carrier; if the carrier is destroyed, then the game is over...
How does it sound?
it sounds alright but you got to add some features
i was thinking of having premade flight plans where by selecting it, a pre arranged number of planes come out in such an order and attack form such an angle etc.
and since there will only be one carrier, a defensive flak system could be included where flak cannons start randomly firing around the carrier to destroy the oncoming planes
you could have it where interceptors are made to indicate a launching plane. the interceptor would turn into the plane.
personally i dislike the idea of mining minerals, it honestly seems very noobish. in my opinion, it would be better to have an automated income

Yeah... I understand what you mean... I was planning on making it sorta like the bunker wars, with an automated income with bonuses for good fighting...
I think those features would be cool. I will try adding them on then show the final project here...
well i have a way to implement the flak system fairly effectively, its not perfectly random but its good enough. I'll give you the triggers if you want them.
just a few things i was wondering about. Is this gonna be a team game, where two fleets of carriers face off or is it going to be 1v1? Is the game about any specific WW2 battle?
If you need any help or ideas, i'm here. i'm not great or anything but i know a trick or two

Sounds awesome, I got an idea for the carrier.
Center a 1x1 location on an interceptor, and have the intercepter kill any unit that touches it! so the carrier will be hard to kill

Honestly, I think that's a bad idea. Not being able to control what your units do? That's not fun. It should be more skill-based, like micro.
well, i consider something like that interesting, more unique, and positively changes gameplay.
it'd be more realistic to actual naval air combat - it wasn't about a few planes "microing" their way through anti-aircraft fire. it was about hundreds of planes massing against a single target.
in any case, i wasn't thinking of every single unit being automated, rather, just certain branches of the air force. eg. you might set the dive and tropedo bombers to "automatic" but you would personally command the air-superiority planes
Why not just make it a WWII-themed Air Evolves then?
