In movies, all the time you see a group of adventurers who travel in a line through a tunnel, or maybe through a haunted hallway, etc.
Imagine there were 3 of you, which position would you take if traveling in one direction?
If you chose center (as I'm sure many would), imagine a monster killed one of you and now it's just you and someone else; back or front?
I would take center if there were 3, and if there were two, it would depend what situation we were in. If I knew there was nothing behind us, or thought we had killed everything behind us, I would have chosen to be second. If we were followed by monsters, I'd be first. Probably quicker death, and at least I get to see what's coming.
I'll take the front like a man and biznatch slap any monsters that come by. And if there's something REALLY scary, I'll run towards the back screaming like a little girl.
The front. And i'd hope to hell that the guy in the back covers our asses. I wanna see what attacks me before it sees me.
If two, same thing.
I believe front would be the best spot because then you can lead the way. And of course the great emotional fear and courage mix... fascinating
Back would be the worst as you run in behind and feel the most separated from the group.
Center would be like a spine of the small group, following the front and showing way to the back.
I take the front as I am just that kind of a man

Going backwards always gave me good lucks. I got good kills and items that way.
I'd take the front, just to be the leader. However chances are I'd be the first one killed or to fall down a hole or something.
I think I misunderstood the question... I think I change my mind to the center. If you are the center, you won't get killed first; you will notice if one person is dead and be aware of the danger.
I dont know. I would kind of have to be there.

Haha I'll pick that one too.
I will not choose center because I don't like to be between 2 people and being the last guy to live sucks. I'd probably be the person in the back because I don't want to be upfront. Back is pretty good since you can always turn around from time to time to see if there are any "monsters" that will come and get you.
I would pick center. And when it does turn out that either the front or back man do dissapear or something, I'd run for it.

MA, your allies won't die if you're center. As soon as a monster pops up you can rap to it and it's head will explode.
And o yea, I wouldn't be taking the front to be the leader. I'm not usually a good leader ;P. I'd be doing it just so I die quick and easy and don't need to watch my friends die. Or I'll be the first one outta there

Being first to die might be good

.
I'm really surprised anyone chose last. You will probably get paranoid and keep looking back

.
If this was a FPS, I'd take the back. Don't ever assume n00bs know how to shoot AWAY from teammates. EVER.

LOL!
That's like this one UT game...where someone stupidly turned the team damage on, and one of my allies didn't realize that "the people the same color of you, you don't shoot them" and like constantly killed my other ally. (I know how to dodge rockets, my other ally didn't)
team scores were like red team: 16 blue:30
red team: Falcon_A - 19 kills
1337KILLA - 4 kills
Player - -7 kills
blue team: roadrage (or somethin like that) 10 kills
IKILLPPLLOL -11 kills
unrealman2376 -9 kills
Every time we got into a team v team battle, the dumbfark behind me would kill me or himself and get my team negative frags ;P
ADDITION:
i shoulda stayed in the back

Depends what was after us and what the hell we were in. The center guy is always the guy to get picked up by ceiling things. Front, the monster in front that usually kills all of them in the end, the rear, the first to go if it's a stalking creature.
So really, yeah. I think.
You have a point. But it's quite rare that the monster picks you up from above.
Imagine you're in an ancient castle dungeons, belonging to a demon-spawned cabal of nobles in the past, monsters everywhere.
Center, just because I am that much cooler than the front person.
If something happens, I will know and not repeat.
Unless of course the person was actually cool, and not some scared little fark.
Strictly from my gaming experience, the person that goes first is the one that sets off the razor wire/rolling boulder/needle gun/pit trap/whatever.
back, cuz if we meet a monster while we're walking, the front guy cant run away

and because you know that there was nothing behind you(the way you came), there's a higher chance you wont encounter anything on your way back
I would pick center because i like being sandwiched

I would probably take the front, because I am stealthy and all quiet and shiz! WHen I play manhunt and stuff like that with my friends I always win. So I would deffinatley be the front runner!!!!
I thought that we were talking about real life, oh well

Yah, real life. In real life, it doesn't take 17 hits for a monster to kill you with three-foot long razor-sharp claws. One or two is all it takes.
