So, they're still going strong on Prime Time, and they're into the 17th season. When should the Simpsons be cancelled, or should they be cancelled at all? I watch the show all of the time, so I want them to stay on for as long as possible.

Early Simpsons were funny, about up to season 12-13. Now it's so farkin stupid I can't watch it anymore, no matter how hard they try it doesn't even make me chuckle. I've watched every Simpsons episode till about season 16 and most of 17 and it really needs to stop now before it ruins its already bad reputation.
I enjoy Simpsons the most out of the three sitcom cartoons (Family Guy, and Futurama). It, a lot of times, has the higest key jokes, and you'd have to understand the subject to get the joke. Family Guy and Simpsons have different types of humor. Simpsons is situational comedy where Family Guy is also geared towards short, witty flashbacks.

In my opinion, Season 8 was the beginning of the decline. I almost never watch The Simpsons anymore, but if I happen to catch an episode from seasons 2-7 on TV while I'm flipping through, I will stop to watch it. 2-7 was the show's prime.
Off topic:
I surpassed the 666 post count and I'm still alive!
I've seen almost every episode in Simpson history, and I enjoyed every one. That's not saying they were all as good, but they were all at least decent (maybe minus a few). But having seen so many, over and over, they get dull. The new episodes are really the only ones I look forward to. I'm glad fox replaced the simpsons with Seinfeld (7:00 Eastern). The show has certainly lost it's touch.

Family Guy > Simpsons
Very true, MA.
They didn't replace it, they swapped it. It's no longer on at 6, simpsons is.
It goes Seinfeld (6), Simpsons (6.5), Simpsons (7), Seinfeld (7.5)
yeah i think simpsons is kinda.. stupid now. It was funny and cool a long time ago but now it's just done with. Apparently it's still funny, but i think other wise.
I've seen many of the episodes and I agree the old ones were funniets although sometimes in the new ones they have occasionaly funnies. I haven't seen many of the newer ones because I just watch Simpsons wen I randomly flip through channels and if it is there I'll watch it.
In my opinion, season 14 was still alright, season 15 was when the episodes got noticeably bad.
The Simpsons plots are good enough to watch, without any jokes. Family Guy's is not. But that doesn't even matter, because I still find the show(The Simpsons) funny, even the old episodes I've already watched.
Keep them coming.
I think they should stop whenever they want. Simpsons was an awesome show. Most of the new episodes aren't that great. Other than an occasion few. I guess it's kinda cliche.
i guess they should stop making more episodes of the simpsons when they feel like it, the show has been around for early childhood and people around the city enjoyed watching it.
well i just watch it when nothing else good is on, and simpsons aren't too bad...theyre still pretty funny but watch family guy when its on over the simpson.
a lot of the simpsons episodes now feel like it was made just to take up time on fox's lineup. it used to be really good, now it's declining. i wish they would revitalize it...

i liked season 16
its more "gag" based.. i really enjoy the gags
Lots of mixed opinions about when Simpsons peaked.
However...
All in favor that season 17 sucks say aye.
Aye!
the Simpsons got Old after season 2529529529592592952 when the show just got Stupid. after all. shows ARENT SUPPOSED TO HAVE 17 SEASONS!
The first 10 seasons were great, but I think they're running out of ideas.
I simply say that whenever they feel like ending, they should. I still watch the Simpsons whenever I see it on. Then again I'm not really into TV anymore.

I have seasons 1-7 on dvd so far. 1-3 werent that great. 4-5 were better and pretty good. 6-7 are the best so far that have come out on DVD.

Whatever happened to "Never fear, we've got stories for years?"
Marge didn't become a robot, but Homer did.
Moe didn't get a cellphone, but Homer did.
Bart didn't own a bear, but Homer got owned by one.
I'm wearing a Simpsons shirt while typing this.
During season 1, the characters were still being developed. The structure of the show being tested with the audience. Yes, it had a certain 'home grown' appeal, but it wasn't The Simpsons that we all know. The jokes were a different type of joke than we're all used to now, more subtle and subdued. Funny, yes, but not the type of funny people want. This season worked, but not as well as it could have.
Season 2; things start falling into place. The family comes into focus and we get to know who they really are. Blinky, Dancin' Homer, Uncle Herb... The show's improving.
Blah blah blah...
Last few seasons; Things seem to be going down hill. The type comedy has changed once again. I no longer want to see the new episodes, they're just not as funny as they once were. Sure, I find something funny once in a while during the show, but not as often as I'd like, not as often as I remember from the gold seasons.
During the good years, nearly every line had some form of joke or play on words that was truly funny. These were the episodes that had meaning, they weren't just trying to get a laugh.
So, yes, The Simpsons have passed their peak. But, there's still hope. The show isn't anywhere near as bad as what else is on TV. Compared to the other
people call comedy, The Simpsons is still my choice.
I don't watch it EVERY time it's on, but when I do, I still find it pretty funny. I think they should keep making them, a lot of people REALLY like it and obsess over it and such. Family Guy is a better show most of the time, but some Simpsons still make me laugh quite a bit. They were probably better around seasons 7 to 9, but who knows. It's still on Prime Time and people still love it
