If you are offended by opinions on religion, please do not view this topic.I had a nice MSN chat with Andy about religion. He had to go so I'll continue here.
Anyways, I was saying how when I die, I expect my body to be roting, and thats the end of my existance. I personally think regilion is something made up so people can feel secure. Such as "I'm going to fight in a war, probaly get killed,
but god is with me".
What leads me to this conclution?
- There is no factual evidence that any supreme being exists. The farther we advance in technology, the more we counteract the stories passed down from generations.
- There are thousands of branches of religion throughout time. If supposedly "one" is the real one, theres probaly not many followers anymore, or the religion was modified. Wouldn't that make god angry?
- Why would god allow death? Doesn't he/she need people to worship him/her?
- On what basis does god decide if I've been good or bad? Its a matter of opinion. If I'm a theif, then I'm bad, but what if I was doing that to feed my family?
Discuss.
only reason why people believe in god is faith. Go argue with any person who thinks earth is 6000 years old and you'll see what I mean.
I don't think god exists(athiest BOY) because we're just some other life. Like plants. but do you think they have a god? most people would find this absurd (plants having a god) but if they don't have a god, why should we? Hmm...I should have pointed this out to that person...
I believe that god only put man on earth for entertainment.
I don't really have a belief yet, because I have no evidence of something to believe in.
However, I do believe life is a game. Just a really big, detailed, advanced game.
As far as is ascertainable, all the universe is is thought and feeling. Feeling, as in senses, sight hearing tasting feeling and smelling.
So life is basicly what you want it to be, because it's whatever you think it is.
And I like the idea that life is a game

Here's something I always try to keep in mind when discussing religion:
1. The credibility of holy texts. People may quote the Bible and the Koran religiously (pun intended), but think for a moment about the people who wrote these books. They are collections of stories written by people who observed certain events. But how do we know that what is written is what truly happened? Everyone adds their own personal slant or interpretation to everything they write. Just check out the "impartial" American news media. Also, we don't know when the people who wrote the holy texts actually put what they saw into writing - it could have been years after they witnessed the particular event they were recording. Also, unless you read Latin (or Arabic, respectively) fluently, you have been reading a translated version of a holy book. Many languages, particularly Latin and Arabic, do not translate perfectly into English, or any other language for that matter. Often a translation from Latin to English is littered with many different possible interpretations of particular phrases or meanings of words. Thus, the true meaning of what the author was trying to get across may have been lost. The fact of the matter is, we don't know anything about the credibility of the authors of the holy texts, so really the books have very little credibility themselves. So, in my opinion, quoting a book is not an effective way to prove a point.
Now that that's out of the way, I can get to the meat of the issue: my belief system, or lack thereof. Until I was 18, I always subscribed to the notion that there was no God. Atheism, for lack of a better term. Recently, however, I have tried to open my mind to new ideas, but so far none of them has struck me as particularly logical, and all of them were hypocritical in some fashion or another (take Christianity for example - condemning cannibalism while at the same time its entire flock eats the figurative body of Christ in the form of communion bread and drinks his figurative blood in the form of communion wine. I decided that I didn't need that kind of irony in my life, so I gave up and decided to forget about the hereafter. It really doesn't matter to me what will happen to me after I die - I want to focus on living a happy life now. This isn't to say that I don't subscribe to a set of morals and values that most religions promote. I look up to people like Jesus, who loved every human being, no matter what horrible things were done to him. But, this love for everyone else in no way proves to me that he was in any way divine. My doctrine is "Do unto others what you would have them do unto you", except I don't add in all the mysticism and suffering that constitute most other religions. Just live your life and be happy, and try to make everyone else happy, as well. If we all followed my philosophy, no one would have to suffer.
So that's my rant. I'd love to hear people's comments and suggestions. Just don't tell me I'm going to Hell. Threats and bribes (Hell and Heaven) are no way to change people's minds.
Nozomu, you bring up good points, but I thought Christ was supposed to be reborn or something in the year 2000... didn't happen. Excuse of the people: "It'll happen in year 3000". Well, I wont around to argue with that, and thats the point.
Many co-incidences found in the bible that actually happened could be the effect of the people, or low level psychic ability.
I don't really believe in much of anything.Partly because some of the things have no logic, it says love your enemy but you cant love your enemy -_- you cant kill him and say you love him, he wouldn't be your enemy in the first place. Thus, you can't love your enemy. Another part is that they say when you die and you go to heaven it's supposed to be some great place where you are happy and content, what if you miss your family? I'm sure that would have happened right now but do I see a god letting a husband speak to his wife from the dead?
I think that when you die, u die.
Aight I agree with Yoshi's first post. I speed read all other posts so you know... I didn't quite get the point.
I quite don't actually belive in god(I belive in Track & Field) but until something extraordinay happens to me then I'll belive.
Jet_Blast54: You can't love your enemy because an enemy is someone you hate. But you can love your adversary which is they guy you're about to shoot in battle.
Your right, you really didn't read mine carefully.

The Torah isn't written in Arabic, it's written in Yiddish. Learn your history, ppls.
I belive that when I die im gone, but I really dont want to just be gone so I guess im scared of death and I hope there is some god and some kind of afterlife but i really doubt it.
I said Koran, not Torah. And the Koran
is written in Arabic. But I always thought that the Torah was written in Hebrew. I should know this... I have Jewish ancestry

Join the club.

I ask this to myself a lot of the time.
Am I really Catholic?
Or did my parents chose that I was going to be one?
This might come as a shock to some of you who believe in reincarnation or spirits, but I've done some thinking about spirits and reincarnation and heres what I came down to. -_-
1. Reincarnation is impossible, because if we were to be reincarnated with no memory of the past, we wouldn't be remembering this right now! Think about it.
2.Your "Soul" is just chemical reactions in your brain, We instinctivly eat and breathe and live, and we are ordered by the brain to make choices. This might shock some of you but we have no soul.
3.Christianity is well organized but, anyone who thinks about it hard enough, can prove each and every bit wrong. Everyone has a different point of veiw, what you may think is wrong may seem moral to someone else,if you have a different perspective then god and he passes down his rules in which he thinks is right then it would be like god is telling you not to live normally.I'm pretty much saying its impossible to have a god.
4. Life after death is possible if you think about it, Your brain runs on chemicals that dont die out for a looong time, so you are actually still consious, except you are living in a half-dream half-awake state, eventually a bug might eat it, a fish might it the bug, a wolf might eat the fish, through all this you are half awake and... you can consider that some kind of reincarnation
Edit:I found some more problems -_-
5. God doesn't like homosexuals, he thinks they're evil, all hate for homosexuals were raised from religion. 3 problems with this, 1. if god hates homosexuals, why did he create them? in fact, why doesn't he just make everyone perfect?(Sorry if theres an answer to this somewhere in the bible.)2. this basicly means that religion is causing hate and distrust, thats just plain not right -_-. 3. god exiles homosexuals, and he has love for all humans.... you see what i mean?
6. Pain isn't some sort of punishment, we are lucky to have pain, without pain there would be 3 times as many deaths in the world.Pain tells you if a spider bites you and 3 hours later you are almost dead so you can notify someone, pain also tells you if something is hurting you for a long time but you dont notice it (Both pretty much saying the same thing.),we don't hate pain, we hate the things that cause it, and thats good, that way you avoid it in the future.
1-what? i dont' think that made sense
2-umm ok I sort of agree and sort of don't.. (but I UNDERSTAND AND THATS ALL IT MATTERS)
3-god=fake (sorry if that offends anyone) science can prove everything in the bible WRONG(well almost all)
4-that would be cool
Ahh whatever... just think about it some more. -_-
1...i don't want to

2...sure dont'
3...yea thats what i meant
4...???
yea whatever blah

Two people who don't agree on something they agree, saying that they should think more and less.
I don't get your conversation thing, but if you two do, aight.
