Why is it that people can only get a Max file size of 5 mb when we can attach things 5mb/10mb/20mb? It would be cool if you could increase the size allowed in the dldb, that way some people could upload a little bigger maps. maybe incrase it to 10mb?

Why in the world does a map need to be so huge?

Uh, no map needs to be 10mb. Map makers should compress their sounds.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2006-03-19 at 14:49:10
Plus the attachement space isn't supposed to be used up in one file, it's generally for multiple screenshots and such.

SeN is not a public filehosting service. If we increased the size allowed for files which people upload, we are asking to become a filehosting service.

Yea thats why we have dldb managers, WE are not asking for it, just because we might increase the size wont make us a file hosting service, God talk about frikin random.

The DLDB already is a way of distributing files, but with a limit. Further increasing that limit means more space and bandwith consumption.

DLDB Keepers do nothing about filesize, they only check the quality of the file.

I believe that making allowed map size limit to 10Mb would do no harm. I mean how many people will actually upload maps bigger that 5Mb? There won't be any 10Mb map wave you are talking about because most maps are under 1 Mb and big maps are produced slowly and rarely released. I guess about 2-5 5+Mb in a year. Not that bad tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zombie on 2006-03-20 at 16:05:23
Seriously, it won’t hurt. Sens dldb is here for a reason, the attachments are bigger than what you’re allowed to upload. That’s really screwed up I think. Using logic will get you far beer, I’m sure no maps will be 10mb but I get around 6mb with all the music and sounds. Adding more space to upload won’t kill anyone.

Basically your saying that if you DO increase the file size then you think that later on we'll ask for 15 mb then 20 mb and so on. Over this long peroid of time it would get out of hand and then this site would become a file hoster.(I exagerated the file size abit..)

Well hey, neither have you.

Let's assume for a moment that there are 700 users who have maps or other files in the DLDB. They each get 5 MB of space in there. That's 1,400 MB, which is almost 1.4 GB. Now, IsolatedPurity pays for the site hosting, meaning that he pays out of his own pocket to maintain the forums, the tutorials, and DLDB, among other parts of the site. If he has to double the DLDB upload space to 10 MB for one person, he'd have to do it for everyone, which amounts to more $$$.

Hey, think before you post. People have over 5mb worth of attachments, People are pretty much doing it anyway, regulars and elites have over 5mb, So its pretty much already done, I’m just saying lessen the attachments, Increase the dldb max size.

Wrong...
Each member can upload as many maps as he likes. That means that any member can use much more than 5Mb. File limit increase would only allow to upload bigger not more maps. It would it be very little change in overall for the reasons I posted before wink.gif

Zombie I don't think you understand how huge 5 Megabytes is for an SC map. Let's take some high downloading time maps:
Deathknights 3
Fíñàl Fàñt৥ VII
Both very huge maps with a lot of music and both maps take over an hour and a half to beat. Your map compared to both these map combined is still 3 Megabytes larger. How about campgains? You know the map Saga of Doodan, each set of 5 maps is a little over 1 Megabyte big. Your map compared to ALL 20 SAGA OF DOODAN MAPS is STILL larger then them.

In other words.
Your map is too farking big.
If other people can make large maps with as much detail as they have then you can too.

I'm currently using 16MB of my 40MB of attachment space. On non Global Mod users, that means that they need and will have to delete some of those attachments.

Increasing the DLDB file size means that some files will be moved to the DLDB, and it means more free attachment space and thus more webspace and bandwith.

QUOTE
That’s a joke, Have you donated at all? I don’t have money to spend on a web site, Sen is free for a reason I think.

SeN is free because Yoshi decided to donate filespace and bandwith, and today, it's IP. Remember when we passed our bandwith per month limit? We had to implement ad's to make up for the extra money to be paid. SeN is free because someone with a little extra money is willing to pay, but chances are, he won't pay more.

By increasing the DLDB space, not only would we get increased amount of bytes from our users, we would have new people come in for the extra space that they couldn't make of good use before.
This dose not only include maps, but sounds and movies as well.

Of course it's no surprise that someone like you would know that. I, on the otherhand dont go making sites that I have to pay for, what use would I have for it? And you really expect everyone to know that? What's your defination of common sense? Because in the dictionary I'm pretty sure it doesn't include WEBSITE MANAGEMENT in its definition.
