Since I'm starting work on the next version, I'll post the link to the now-obsolete version.

Download it here.

Only the claw and creep stop spawning after 1 hour. Everything else will keep spawning throughout the entire game.

Mute Unit Speech... I meant to take that out. It doesn't make too much of a difference.

Well, just played it. Almost 3 hrs in and I guess Im near the end. I found the ultralisk, and Im quite glad I had that warp with me. smile.gif

Anyway, just some of my thoughts: I love the shadow/light concept thing. The story is pretty neat too. Dropship inventory is a big plus. Getting money can be a hassle, since some of them dont give any for a while, while I found that the ghosts and vults seem to drop relatively more often. I spend a good moments just waiting for my stamina to go back up, and time hunting for money for lights and other potions.

Well, I know I probably will continue to play this by myself, seeing the only friend wholl go into these long bw games probably wont have 3+ hrs to blow.

I hope in the future you have a 'lighter' version of this; I always keep my sounds off and listen to winamp in the background, so the music is basically wasted on me.

The music in that game makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
YAY

Well, I HIGHLY disagree with taking out the mute unit speech. I don't know, having my marine go "Go Go Go!" every time I click somewhere just eliminates the calmness of the map. I like the map because it calms the player, with the relaxing music, and lonely environment. That's one of the reasons I love it. Anyways, I have a bit of a suggestion to make:

Stamina. Not sure if that's here to make us spend our money on energy cakes or to drive us insane, but I think you should place an inn in every town. There the player could pay something like 5 seed for a rest, to recharge his stamina, or a 7 seed rest to charge his health and stamina up. I think energy cakes should only be used when in the caves, and medicinal herbs as well. After all, *someone* in the city has to be able to heal, or there must be a way to heal other then using medicine?

Though I do *love* the new change you made on the item usage. Having the dropship ready impressed me. Though, at first I thought you could cheat by dropping a unit you don't have, but when I saw "Item not found in inventory." that just put a smile on my face. Great job!

That lake town picture is brilliant, nice terrain+sprites (I know thats been said a few times). If the whole map looks that good then you are truly a mastermind.
Also can I get a copy of the map? [kev_jak@yahoo.com]

My guess is you played it as player 1 be yourself and he made triggers for it not to be played in single player. Move to player slot 2 or create with more players.

Not sure if it was mentioned in this topic or the pre-purged one, but you cant play this simply on single-player; player 2 is required, so you need to make it online, or on LAN, and move yourself into the p2 slot.

This would be such a great map for a LAN party...

How goes the side-quests, PirateKing?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-08-04 at 22:15:28
School started today. Ugh.

I'm still trying to think of sidequests that are more than errands. I want them to reveal some of the details and events surrounding the main quest. There'll be some background info on the relationship between lumin and humans and stuff like that.

Also, I'm working on some simple minigames like the archery and treasure chest games in Zelda: OoT.

A massive update might come later this year. However, I might be too busy with college app stuff to bother with SC. In that case I might get around to it after all the app stuff is done.

I can't wait for the next version. It's kind of boring right now cause I drained most of the caves and just have to walk around... Slowly... And try not to crash... And save often... And type lot's of periods...

I uploaded the map into the database. You don't have to PM me to get a copy now.

The entire middle was originally set aside for a big cave where you go from room to room by solving puzzles before finally entering the main chamber. Unfortunately, I ran into an error (too many nooks and crannies), and so I had to change it. Currently, I've got some plans for that place, but I'm not going to reveal anything yet.

I'll be making a minor update sometime soon. Nothing too big, but there'll be stuff like items to pick up, revised dialogue, and some minor stat tweaks. The next big update will include a completely new storyline for player 4 amongst other things.

I suggest you get to it and make those side quests. happy.gif

If you're lacking ideas I'm sure I could dream a quest or two up for you.

Just played it yesterday (yup, the whole friggen thing). It was good, but it got far too repetative with the cave exploring parts IMO. You should have made it so you bought mines in packs instead of 1 at a time, which would have saved me trips and money. Anyway some random ideas I thought of:
- More dynamic towns (patrolling villagers, talking, more enterable buildings, etc.)
- Increasingly dangerous monster types (you had only had 3 sets, and some tanks toward the end, but when I was done I had upgraded to the point I could kill them all without trouble).
- Changing music/ambience per area.
- Light-eating monster/bosses.
- Quests for light. In other words, not having to place mines friggen everywhere.
- Bigger lights (either as an upgrade, later in the game, etc.)
- More diverse terrain. The towns were awesome, though static, but the caves were beyond repetative. I got tired of them after the first ling/brood area at the start.
- Secrets or shortcuts. You have to put something in those caves to make them worth exploring, considering all the time I spent doing it.

That's all I can think of. Keep up the good work.

Play on Bnet as Player 2 then you can play alone. And if you want to I'll also play the game with you I'm kinda bored xD
