Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Legacy Of Hæan Rpg

Introduction:
Legacy of Hæan is an RPG set in the huge cavernous world of Hæan. In this unique setting, you take on the role of Explorers. You are looking for something out there in those unexplored caves, but don't expect to find it if you aren't willing to look long and hard. This game is not for everyone. If you don't have the patience to enjoy a map of this kind, please stay far away from it. But, if you are willing to spend some time (perhaps several hours) and really get into it, you won't be disappointed.

In terms of gameplay, I tried to mimic --to some degree-- MMORPGs that I've played in the past. What that means is that you might have to spend some time hunting for money or exploring an area instead of clawing your way through hordes of enemies while trying to reach a final destination. Whether or not you like that kind of game will probably be a key factor in your enjoyment of the map.

Story:
The creator of the world, Hæan, disappeared mysteriously before he could finish his work. As a result of his disappearance, the world was left in darkness, incomplete. Tired of living in the darkness, humans are trying to find Hæan and restore him so that he might finish what he started. You must venture into the darkness, and find the one who brings the light.

The story will unfold as you play the map.

Themes:
Darkness and exploration. The world is a network of caves that you have to explore. You don't have shared vision with yourself, so you have to rely on "lights" to travel and map out the world. Lights can be bought in shops and they are also found preplaced in some lower level areas. Learning to use lights properly will save you a lot of time and money.

Some features:
  • Stamina - If you run out, you will be slow. Might not sound so bad, but it makes you easy prey in the dark.
  • Lights - Placing lights in the caves will allow you to find a path leading from place to place. Managing your lights properly is a MUST.
  • Stacking inventory - You can carry any number of items at once, and taking stock is easy (with the exception of lights).
  • No levels/experience/spells - This is not a classic D&D map.
  • Randomized spawning and money for kills.
  • Large and complex world - 15 caves, 4 towns, 4 rest zones.
  • Sound - Sounds serve 2 purposes. First, it adds a lot of flavor to the map. Secondly, it increases the file size to discourage Bnet play.

Notes:
  • Player 2 is required. This prevents people from using single player. To play solo, choose multiplayer and move into the second slot.
  • Up to 4 players can play, but right now players 1, 3, and 4 don't have any quests of their own. If you want to play with multiple players, just have 1, 3, and 4 map out the caves for you. All players can participate in the main quest, though, so it's not like the extra players are useless.
  • I recommend playing it solo or with people who don't purposely try to screw things up by sharing vision, etc. If nothing else, it lags A LOT less with just one player.
  • There are no free heals. If you want to heal, buy a potion. It's not that expensive.
  • There are no extra lives. You die, you're dead. I hope you saved.
  • Players start in different towns. Trust me, it saves a lot of time when mapping out the world.
  • There isn't much help in the map for new players, but it's pretty easy to figure things out.
  • All sound effects are property of Softmax (softmax.co.kr).
  • SAVE your game periodically! Although extremely rare, the map has crashed for seemingly no reason in testing on more than one occasion. Not only that, it's always a good idea to save in case of accidental death.
  • Not meant for Bnet play! This is not particularly tailored for the Bnet audience. Would you really spend HOURS playing with total strangers?
Getting started:
  • Minerals = SEED (money)
  • Gas = Stamina
  • If you are player 2, find the orange civilian in the town where you start out. Anything orange is important.
  • Items are now on a dropship system (in your inventory at the top right).
  • Your damage upgrades by 2 each level (yes, it doubles your damage the first upgrade).
  • Warps are activated when you enter an area. You don't need to 'activate' waypoints by stepping on them.
Changes since last version:
  • The ending works!
  • Item system changed to dropships.
  • Minor text changes.
  • The town Harper has been renovated (see screenshot).
  • Money drop rate slightly increased.

I'm impressed. It sounds great. I won't PM you, 'cause I'm lazy, but if you're feeling generous could you toss a copy my way? It looks like fun.

Well here's what happened: I originally planned to just release this one like I did the last one (full-access open beta), but my friend can't upload it for me this time. I decided I'd just email it to anyone who wants a copy. I'm not doing this for security reasons; I just don't have any means of making it downloadable.

Therefore, gimme your email address (PM or otherwise), and I'll send you a copy. You don't have to give feedback or even play it for that matter. It makes a great collector's item, so get one today!

As for the completion of the map, I'm still coming up with ideas for little bonus quests and whatnot. I also want to put in little games you can play to earn money. However, keep in mind that this version took me over a year to produce, so ideas tend to come slowly to me. This will be an on-going project, so it might never reach a "fully completed form."

real itchy butt.

I played the old version and it took me hours just to light up the map. Anyways it's really cool and I have a suggestion for mini-games you want.

It's kind random so every time you enter a "Game House" something like that it won't be the same. I thought of this last night, and I am going to be making an RPG I'm gonna announce soon.

Here the triggers.

Conditions
-Always
Actions
-Set Switch X
-Disable Switch Y
Wait(Waits are very few milliseconds, usually less than 100)
-Disable Switch X
-Enable Switch Y
Wait(Waits are very few milliseconds, usually less than 100)
-Disable Switch Y
-Enable Switch X
-Preserve Trigger

Now heres the important one, when a player enters a "Game House" the mini-game he plays depends on what switch is eneblad. The more mini-games you have the more "Random Switches" you need. 1 switch per mini-game.

Heres how to do do the mini-game.

Conditions
-Switch X is enabled
- bring Unit to location
Actions
- The mini-game triggers(Bounds, or whatever)
- Preserve trigger

Do one of these or how many it takes for your mini-game to work. You will need Hyper-Triggers for this.

This method hasen't been tested (unless someone thought of it first), and I plan on testing it when I have time. And if it works like I thought I'll put it in as a tutorial.

You need:

Conditions:
-Switch X set
-Ready to start minigame set

Actions:
-Clear Ready to start minigames
-Set Minigame 1

Conditions:
-Minigame 1 is set

Actions:
-do minigame

Otherwise, the switches will flip and switch between minigames

Aight, now I got it.
After your dude goes to "Game House", depending on which switch is set you will go to mini-game place. A different mini-game location for each one. Depending on which location you are in the game triggers. Something like this.

The Random Switch trigger as stated above

Conditions
- Switch X is set
- Unit at location
Actions
- Move unit to location X

Conditions
- Unit at location X
Actions
- Start Mini-game

As as said in my previous post, this is only a concept and I plan on testing it on Sunday. When I'm done testing it and perfecting it, ill post a tutorial.

Feel free to add suggestions and i this these last 3 posts should be moved.

An Email have been sent to moogle. You can remove your email addresse from the thread now (for security or whatever).

Nozomu and podfedjay, the file is too large. I tried sending it, but I got an error:

"Remote host said: 552 5.2.3 Message exceeds maximum fixed size
(5242880)"

Sorry for any inconvenience, it's just too big to upload here (5.13 mb), and my friend who used to host it is on vacation. I'll ask the webmaster if he'll upload it for me.

I love the city on the lake. Did you do that all by hand or did you bet a custom brush?

Pirate, this is just my opinion, but in Harper I think it would look a little better with out the water doodads. It's just that I find the crashed ship or whatever it is, very unappealing. =/

Thanks for the comments, and sorry for the incovenience.

Hmm... would a music-free version be acceptable? I would definitely be able to fit that onto an email or even onto the database here.

cry.gif But I love the music. Without it, it just feels so dull...

Anyway, I'm considering a music free version, and I'll take the giant marine statue out of the water (it's kinda ugly in game because the water around it doesn't move).

Ever played RPGs like Diablo II and FFXI? In those games you have to stay in an area and hunt easy units until you have enough money to upgrade. Same concept here.

If you aren't strong enough to kill phantoms in 1 hit, they will cloak and snipe you. You should stay in the easy levels until you are stronger.
