Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Secrets, & Easter Eggs
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Hugel on 2006-03-21 at 18:59:07
I plan to put at least 2 hidden characters in my current RPG.

I'm also planning on putting in special end bosses for each character.

What I would like to ask all of you, is how hard should the hidden characters be to discover? Should I just mention them with one word in the briefing "Secrets" or should I base it on how easy/hard the character itself is in the course of the game. One of the hidden characters, I plan on making one of the toughest to play in the game. The other I plan on it being almost the easiest.

Just wondering how you all feel about secret/hidden characters.

Thanks

Make them easy to discover but only for people who are looking for them.. and don't them overpowered, easter eggs are suppost to be fun not like god mode cheat that lets you kill everything in 1 hit confused.gif

I agree with Azu superpoweful secrets just wreck the game once everyone knows them.

I think secrets should be things that you stumble across and aren't mentioned at all in the game until then.

They should be things ( easter eggs ) like saying ur real adress, having deleted scenes and stupid things... of the sort... bleh.gif

Easter Eggs are supposed to be incredibly hard to find. Yes, don't overpower them, people WILL eventually find them, perhaps with trigger viewer. Just make the hidden characters very unique.

Wrong forum.

Anyways, they should not be much stronger than the usual characters but they should have some cool special thing in them. Also, it should be clues that lead to the egg and not by just random walking.

Although secrets are normally are very difficult to find, I doubt much people would try that hard to find easter eggs on SC maps. Never mention them directly, but hint at them every now or then. Or even just once. Players don't even need to go through an ordeal in order to reveal the secret. Simply going in some really obscure place (of course, you'll have to plan well in order to trick the player into not exploring every nook and cranny in where the secret is) should be good enough for a secret. Making an entire dungeon for the secret character is more of a side-quest.

Remember, secrets are small, remote...er...secrets, so they are rather obscure and often overlooked. Side-quests are like giant targets yelling, "I'm a side-quest." As for easter eggs, they actually are really strange things, usually useless. If one of the hidden character is really offset (such as a Battlecruiser named 'Galactic Starship' in a medieval setting RPG), then it could be considered an easter egg, I guess. But for something like a hidden character, I would still classify it as a secret. As some guy said above me, easter eggs are something like your address and such.

Make it so the secrets are not told of so that they are like "NO WAY" when they find it out!

the harder it is to get an easter egg, the better the egg should be

make sure you can only get it once

easter egg items are fun (Chicken Summon Item: summons a chicken with low health that can attack but does little damage)

if it's a message, only show it for a little while and never again in the same game

characters from other games are funny (insert wc3 hero name here(make it run across a cutscene or show slightly, covered in fog but selectable))

never make the cookies affect the story line in any way

secret characters are not really cookies, except for the chicken smile.gif

Make it something that is easy to find, but dont mention anything so, Dont give any hints either. People will look for anything. Maybe put a different type of terrain as the only type of hint. They will go to it wonderwing what will happen the vwala. An upgrade or whatever! And make another type of easter egg that is bad! Maybe like you go there and something attacks you, but not something strong maybe like a ling or a marine that does just a coujple damage for people to watch out for! Dont have so many secrets to find though, only because a game with secrets, is a game that people only do those secrets than they easily win!!!! And when they get the secret maybe teleport them to a place where there is an enemy of some sort!!!!!!

Good Luck!
