Wow... Haven't seen you in ages.

look at the melee forums.

look at the ums forums.

Which has more sections, people, participation, people who actually post, etc etc.

the site is predominantly UMS.

I know that this is site is "predominantly" UMS, however I did mention that it is not "purely" UMS. As long as there are UMS and Melee forums/downloads, this site shall remain and maintain both map variants.

Your view point is similar to saying for example that an ethnic group who are the most recent additions to society and (if you will) hold a vast majority in population, shall make the society theirs. What happens to the previous group who are now the minority? They aren't completely removed and if anything they are still present, though it's like you fail to acknowledge them.

Not really. melee wll never dominate, as you show in your example of making the society theirs...

Because it isn't a vast majority in population, because plenty of SC players think melee is gay, and I can sadly accept that, but don't say that this site is for melee...bwmn will always be for melee, this will always be for ums and attempt at melee...some other sites are nice too but...

there r still some really good melee maps...its just that theyre pretty limited to what u can do wer as UMS maps have a LARGE ASS range of maps..melee maps r still good though but still i only play them 1 time outa every 10 maps or so closedeyes.gif

When did I say melee will dominate? I simply said (in accordance to that saying) that melee is the minority, however it is not wiped away from the face of the earth and it shall always be present as long as there are people who are interested in mapping.

Do you even know what you are saying anymore? You pretty much supported what I said in your

and what BWMN has doesn't really matter to me.

I musta read that wrong. Sorry. And i'm not trying to argue...I was just trying to say that melee will always be a smaller section, and i'll be honest, i dont . all i was saying was that Val wasn't wrong when he said it was a UMS site.

TOTAL CATEGORIES FOR UMS: 10 (Featured doesnt count)
TOTAL CATEGORIES FOR MELEE: 2

Staredit is UMS. That means that's melee is dying on THIS site, not on b.net. I've seen alot of melee games on b.net. You should try another place if you want melee.

IT's not really Melee that is dying, it is Starcraft in general.

Next person to say StarCraft is dying should be shot. Seriously, every ****ing year someone says StarCraft is dying, and it's popular as ever. There's a world of StarCraft out there you've probably never heard of.

RANT, don't read if you don't like mindless babaling
And on the topic of UMS players. I believe the only reason a player goes pure UMS is because they prefer to play a game where virtually everyone is reletivly new to it, and thus almost nothing is expected of you. Whereas if you play melee (that is, 'non-money'), you'll probably lose all your games when you first start. And it can be hard for some people to accept that there's always some kid judging your skill in it. For example, if you took it personally, what hurts you more... playing 100 melee games and still getting your ass handed to you by most gamers, or play 100 UMS games on the different maps, and usually getting your ass handed to you? A lot of people just find melee frustrating if they always play people better than them, and boring if they play people who suck as much as them when they start.

You can't really enjoy StarCraft melee until you have 80+ APM. Otherwise you're going to end up playing games with very little complexity, and your micro and macro will just be pathetic. I've watched some of the replays uploaded to the DLDB, containing players with like 40 APM, and they are just terrible. Neither player ever develops a decent army, and they lose units uselessly. It's easy to see why they don't like melee very much.

So next time you say melee is dying, look at your APM, it just may hold the answers. I guarentee anyone with 150+ APM does not find this game boring.

PS: I think it should be obvious by APM I mean you're actually doing things with your actions, not giving one unit the move command to the same place 5,000,000 times.

Did I ever tell you about my friend who had an APM of 12 this one game where I beat him with nothing but cannons and sairs (web)?

Yes, people who suck usually don't like it as much. I guess you're right because my APM is usually high 90's, once got like 117 vs yenny ;P, or this one game i was 201 vs a korean O_O but half of it was random clicking...tongue.gif

APM is not the only measure of "skill" or being good at the game, but i must agree that in general you must be faster and better to enjoy melee (unless it's like 30 apm vs 30 apm...which just eventually gets boring;P )

Nope, starcraft isn't dying...just odds are, 90% of the people on this website don't play melee, and if they do, their apm is,(using your standard), probably lower than 80

I got bored of the same old UMS maps faster then melee maps. At least melee maps are random. Your never going to get the same feeling afterwards. With UMS you either know how to exploit a map and win or you get exploited and you lose. Not only that but all I see is Golems, Sunken D, and sniper..

Battle.net plays some shizty ass melee maps (like fastest possible map evers, BGH, LT, etc,) so if you really want to play some good melee maps, download b-netX and go there if you want to play some serious melee games on good melee maps. People in that gateway actually play PGTour maps and are really good.

Aren't B.net private servers illegal? I have no problem with that because I use 1 myself, but I remember 1 guy got ass kicked for posting a link ermm.gif

No not at all, especially if they are required for official major tournament leagues like Pro Gamers Tour.

Hello. I know I don't post here often but I was just wondering if any custom mellee maps use woodenfire type blends.

First off, what the hell does that mean. Secondly, wouldn't that be a different topic...?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Darktica on 2006-04-19 at 14:04:51
Yeah, I never really see anyone playing Blizz/non-money maps on SC anymore. It's always either 3v3 ZC micro supreme, 3v3 ZC, 3v3 ZC, 3v3 ZC micro islands, or 3v5c fastest or micro jail.

I can never get anyone to join a game on Primeval Isles (Oh my God, the funnest, but hardest map ever). It's sad, because money maps require no skill at all. 3v3 maps are just "build as many of one unit as you can and attack someone", and fastest is the same way. There's no strategy in massing units and telling them to attack to someone else's base.

As for people playing entirely UMS maps... how? I get sick of UMS after like 3 games. For two reasons:

1.) You always get stuck at the same point, or around the same point, in that one map each time you try it (mostly due to retards or laggers).

2.) Most UMS maps aren't really fun and get old fast.

go to asia server or play at night lots of korean plays play LT luna, or join a gaming ladder like pgtour or wgtour.

I went to the Asia Server a couple times, but all I see them play are Hunters/LT - Gamei. They don't play any fastest possible map evers or BGH, but still, lack some variety.

The best thing is to get these private/league servers because all they play is pro maps, and the people there are better.

I like playing custom melee maps, but I doubt I'd be good enough to even try to play on a private server... Sort of sucks.

Yes they are, UMS have been making a gigantic sweep over Meele, sorry to say it but i think meele is dying, ohmy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2006-04-23 at 01:10:14
The melee world is far bigger than the UMS world. Most meleers are from other servers (like Asia) or are on private ones, like for PGTour or WGTour.

The UMS world is the one that's dying.

UMS > Melee

I'll grab the matches, you guys fan the flames! devil.gif furious.gif

Melee maps suck. UMS maps rock (relatively, for StarCraft, which is itself dying because it's only for noobs now). Get a real RTS like C&C: Generals. You actually need micro there. /yawn

Starcraft isn't dying, just n00bs go to their local Walmart with their 10 bucks of allowance money and see SC there in a collector's box, buy it, and go online.

You need micro in Starcraft...Believe me, you need micro in Starcraft...

Many UMS's require it, such as Team Micro Arena (though it actually limits you a lot), most bounds, plenty of stuff.

Massing games don't...

Melee...REAL melee does. Going NR 20 and making 20 bc, clicking attack move to the other side of the map and thinking you have good micro because you didn't right click does not.

But real melee does...But since "UMS > Melee" (thank you for spelling it right ;P), I suppose that wouldn't really matter.
