You know that saying "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger"? Is it true? Sometimes it can totally cripple you, but it applies sometimes? What do you think

Depends on what it is. This tends to apply more to mental things than physical ailments and injuries. Unless you're that guy who shot himself in the head and knocked out his brain tumor.
What about cancer? If it doesn't kill you does it make you stronger?
No, actually. It makes you weak, so your immune system is only 2 thirds as strong as it would be on average. I don't know where I read that, but it was somewhere

But on the flip side, you can build up an immunity to things, so if you got sick, your immune system would learn to recognize that threat and fight it off, making your immune system stronger.
That sounds about right though. Cause the chemotherapy or whatever kills your white blood buddies or something.
Also, what if some crazed man decided to kidnap you and cut off your arms and legs and then stop the bleeding and patch up your wounds. Then he lets you back into the unkidnapped world. He didn't do anything to kill you and I doubt you're stronger.

Damn, I jumped in here thinking I was gonna say "Only if you happen to be a saiyan."
Curse you, Deathawk.
Anyways... No, no it doesn't... Except if what moose said actually happened.

ONLY IF YOU HAPPEN TO A SAIYAN LAWL RAWR SPOOT! [/spam]
Well, sometimes.
If you break a leg, the bone rebuilds thicker, thus making it stronger.
Taking a bunch of drugs repeatedly eventually makes you build up a resistance to them.
There's alot more, but, generally, I think yes, in most cases.
Well, what if you break tear ligaments or something in your leg, and then it heals, but there's a lot of scar tissue and you aren't as mobile? Sure it's harder to break, but mobility is an issue too. I guess it's all your own opinion as to what stronger is.
if it doesnt kill you, you still have time to think, and your will power can get stronger in order to survive

i think this saying was meant for mental strength and not physical
Here's an alright example I can give to you guys, hopefully you guys understand it.
Would you rather have a baseball player on your team that injured his right knee and now is fully healed, or somebody who was never injured?
i'd take the uninjured one because he was good enough not to get hurt

The experience of whatever makes you a "stronger" person, as in better or more wise.
I don't think it is true. If you somehow survive AIDS, it doesn't make you any stronger physically, but it makes you mentally stronger because you survived AIDS.
I agree. But some peope, don't realize that there are two kinds of strength. Mental and Physical. Mental means that you are now more experiences, so you are ready for this, but physical means that all physical matter (like germs, bacteria) no longer has that much of an efffect. Why do you think they give you flu shots. it's not really medicine, it's an actually flu virus, but your body is MENTALLY readier for it. That's why it's called "immunity". Don't believe me on the definition? Look it up.

What the hell? Your body is mentally ready for it? Uhh... Well, what happens is when they inject you, it's a bunch of dead influenza virus. Then the white blood cells come around and do their business and then they know all about the virus and then know how to kill it and store it until the living virus comes inside you.
And I don't see how beating AIDS can make you mentally stronger... Sure you know how hard it was to beat it and know about AIDS, but are you a rocket scientist?
Gaining mental strength after childhood is bullshiz.
If a bullet misses you you don't get stronger. It's completely incorrect as a statement of fact but of course is correct sometimes.
Oh my god... Dell outsourcing their technical support help line jobs to India isn't killing me. I am getting stronger!
If someone dropped a lead brick on your back and you were paralyzed from the waist down, you'd live...but I wouldn't say you're much stronger.

Sometimes it can totally cripple you, …
That was going to be my argument when I first read the title..
Once I got an injury in my left leg, I had to use crutches and I was gone from my soccer team for like three months, when I was back I was stronger than ever, so yes, I think it's true.
Really, I think even if you would lose mouvement neck down, I think you'll become mentally and psycologicaly stronger.
Or else you'd go insane for being retarded.
