Omfg. Okay.
Sometime last month... I applyed for this job at a web design/advertisment firm. Their initial request was for interns, but since I'm not in college at this time, I emailed the hiring person, "Bob", if I could get away without being in college. Partial response:
QUOTE
Yes, we would consider you even though
you are not a current student. If you could forward me your resume, and any
portfolio or examples of work you have done that would be great. Just a
heads up too, we are extremely busy this week due to the fact we are
relocating our office from suburb of Milwaukee to an office in downtown
Milwaukee.
I done exactly that, emailed him a portofolio of all the work I've been doing. I didn't get a response for a few weeks, from which I assumed I wasn't being considered. This saturday (3 days ago), I did actually get a response. It was a bit weird, however:
QUOTE
Are you knowledgeable with PHP/MYsql or advanced xhmtl programming?
That was it. In the same email, my portofolio was under it (as replied to text), which should have anwsered that question. I responded nicely, stating a "Yes" and mentioned my recent dealings with AJAX, offered source code, etc.
It wasn't until this time I actually checked out the corporate site for which I was applying for. I saw this news post about the company launching a single's site for my home town. Naturally, I wanted to see how good the code was for this site. I figured, if I could do better, than my confidence of deserving this job would raise. The site was horrible... I couldn't even register because the upload form only allowed .jpg, but it rejected anything I threw into it (format, size, or dimensions). The registration form was bugged with even more errors. At this point, I was thinking to myself, "Well, if this is the work they do so far, than the anwser to question asked is 'I am a PHP god.'" I was about to recode the site and email it to him, but not seeing the member's section of the site really bugged me. That's where it all went downhill.
I started going through the female's top rated profiles, trying to log into their account with the password "test". I got into my first one and immediated tested the edit form for html/javascript/xss holes. I found one, very fast and easily. I was like, wow. Since I was in this females account, I emailed her. My intentions were to tell her she shouldn't use an easy password... and maybe flirt a little
.
The email contained a guy's name, this I realized. However, I didn't realize it was the same name as the person I was seeking hiring from. I tried other member's accounts to see if I could get into them as well, and I did. At least half of them. As I was playing around, I noticed something strange. All the email addresses were the same. I freaked out a little and sent another email to the address stating "disregard that last email, and if this is who I think it is, check your email at X host".
That was all this morning. I got a reply while I slept:
QUOTE
<the single's site>.com was an experimental design system recently setup. Many
profiles are created as demos to show what the system does. The project
isn't officially launched and is under redevelopment to work out advanced
bugs in the system/code that came up during trial.
Due to your numerous emails with what came across as sarcasm and lack of
professionalism, I will not be considering you for any type of work with the
firm.
Thank you for you time
I was pwn't. And the single's site is now down for recoding now. Or something.
I responded, though:

My numerous emails were not sarcasim. The questions I asked below were valid ones because I was going to offer to redo <singles site>.com on my own free time, in order to give you hard proof that I know how to code. Then, I e-mailed "Jenna" with the intention to tell her not to use an easy password like "test", because I would have got, what I thought was, real private information. The fact that [bobz] was in the email address didn't register until I saw it multiple times. I was laughing at myself for not seeing it. The lack of professionalism was only apparent because I quickly sent another email to cover for the last one, after I figured out what was going on. I don't think there's a professional code of honor for trying to recover after you sent a "Hey, what's up Jenna" to the person you're seeking hiring from, because you emailed them after "hacking" into their account, because you wanted to see the insides of a site they did, in order to revamp it.
If you don't wish to consider me, that's a real loss for both of us. Either way, please email me back if you decision is final... or if you're willing to reconsider. I know I can be a great addition to your team, just give me the chance to convince you of the same.
It's all too weird at this point.
