I set the orginial topic to invisible, because it was getting too close to violating google's ToS. While I do, of course, appreciate the enthusiasm and wish to help SEN out in any means possible, it wouldn't do much if SEN gets banned from Google's products pinch.gif.

I will review the thread when I return to SENv4's code to make a little upgrade. At that time, I will look into better ad placement... and fixing the massive centering that took place in IE.

If you have anything more to contribute, you can do so here.

The only thing I have to say about the ads is this.

Stop complaining about them.

IP owns the site so it is his choice to add them.

Yea, really. We are getting our own host(or something), we will have more space for maps and everything. This is awesome, ads are fine is we look at the good thing we get biggrin.gif

1 quick comment on the ads.

Give some of the money to Yoshi, some to Moose and some to DTBK (who gave SEN like 150 dolars) AFTER you get enough to make up for all the money you've put into the server all these years (minus the donated money of course).

Why Yoshi? He still owns 200$ to IP or something from time he was admin. At least I have heard that tongue.gif

Why Moose? He doesn't pay for the site, IP does.

Why DTBK? Why not? tongue.gif

He's saying to give us actual monetary compensation for the work we do here, not to pay for the site.

Why? It's your free will to do the work.

How about we just keep it for future use for the site.

I wouldn't mind doing so...

I am not bothered or annoyed by them. As long as the entire page is not consumed by them and there is no popups, I am good. smile.gif

I work for knowledge and a good time.
If I'm THAT desperate for money, and I'm about to go prostitute myself, then I'd ask for money.

I have no problem with these ads, well, maybe ONE...

EMERALD!??!

Yeah, emerald. EMERALD. GO AWAY EMERALD!

I actually saw a starcraft one, but it was like "Starcraft Free Cheap" or something, and that cracked me up. It just needs to be relavent to the topic (yeah, you emailed Google, I know tongue.gif)

But prostituteing yourself is half the fun!

The moeny is the other half... Keke.

Oh, and make them add Syphon ads. Selling hoses over the internet = ...kinda lucrative.

It's not google's fault... it has either something to do with the conversation (talking about money) or SENv4's poor set up... or maybe someone's signature or something. It generally seems to fit the topic...

Right now I see ads for PHP, smilies, and ringtones. The more relevant the ads are to the topic, I think the more the ads pay per click (advertisers pay on keywords, after all... better keywords = they pay more).

But... Merrell's name in a topic can bring up products for Merrell shoes(?). I'll have to research (to avoid breaking ToS) on what I can do for google... like block it from showing signatures, avatars, and such to show better ads. It would also save on bandwidth as well.

I already found a way to make money online tongue.gif

Anyways, I work on SEN to own signatures.

You should give MINERALS for clicking the ads! Then, there will indefinitely be more clicks. I'd click fifty different ads and popups a day if it raised money for this site.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-04-07 at 18:33:47
That's actually a good idea -_-

5 minerals a click smile.gif

Haha... that would be cool... but it breaks google's ToS. You'll have to motivate yourself, sorry smile.gif.

Wait, SEN actually get money for every click we do? Even if one person clicks the same ad 100 times?

If so, guys start clicking tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2006-04-07 at 18:54:16
Not every click, I'm sure. If the same person clicks on the same ad in the same day, it doesn't count.

Edit: PS: I don't think mad clicking sprees help sen as much as clicks spread out over the day's time period...

And no offence, but it's IP's free will to pay moose if he wants, im not saying hes going to, but he sure as heck doesn't need any help from you making his decision

Google Ads only record every Unique click so unless you have dial-up you wont be able to click it multiple times.
