Well, DEAD's been saying Roms aren't legal, so long as you own the game, but should we allow those links on this site? If I recall, there was a user who did post a thread about it and he got warned for it. What's the final say?

Roms are illegal no matter what.

There is no need to "backup" a copy of a game you own.

Roms aren't necessarily illegal. There are "abandonware" roms, I'm sure.
If in doubt, kindly remove the links or whatever. Better safe than sorry?

Well there are public domain roms.

However, if the roms has an official license and copyright stuff, it won't enter public domain for at least another 50 years so tongue.gif

Well, these are SNES and N64 roms. It's just that while it might be okay for the people who own the game to redownload them, we can never know if every downloader actually owns the game.

Then Nintendo or whoever files a lawsuit and blah.

You call, as always.

Yes. U.S. Copyright laws allow you to make one backup copy of software you own.

You may copy your owned game only to have a backup copy just in case. I've done it a few times myself, and Yoshi has suggested it to the many people that ask for a download of Starcraft because their CD broke.

I also have a SC iso on my computer. My CD is scratched to hell.

The link says it's ok if you back it up.

It's not ok to download someone else's rom.

Having an iso is legal, so long as you made the copy from your own cd.

The question at hand is that is that would you allow links to rom sites to be posted on these forums?

No.

Joe: Anyone know some good sites that are fun? Thanks wink.gif
Bob: Heres my favouites!  http://www.illegal.com  http://www.badpornosite.com  http://www.anotherbadsite.com

Lesson: Seeing that starcraft is rated Teen (13+) we must moderate our forums that way. Posting links to illegal stuff, porno and things like that is not allowed here. Discussion is allowed as long as it remains clean of anything that could be hurtful to someone else.
