Almost every other day you see reports of soldiers getting killed, a helpicopter falling from the sky, and bombs going off in Iraq. I do not deny that this stuff happens but isn't the media being a little biased. I know Canada has SOME updates on re-building Iraq but let's face it folks, when's the last time you heard just one of the many schools and hospitals being built by British, Canadian, American, and other forces? The media is so biased on reporting the bad and never the good side of things, this leads to clouded visions of what actually happens in places around the world. I know they are just trying to sell their stories but come on, is it really necessary just to report the evils and not the good in this world or wrongs "not being righted"?
Unfotunately, the media has always been biased. The problem is that bad things sell better than good things. Would you rather read "BILL GATES LOSES FIFTY TRILLION DOLLARS" or "BILL GATES DONATES FIFTY TRILLION DOLLARS TO CHARITY"
Bill gates doesn't even have 1 trillion dollars.... he has 49 billion...

Maybe it's because America was the only one that really
wanted to go to war? The only thing there to oppose against are revolts, insurgents, and small forces. So, really there is nothing but bad. Also, I've never heard of us building anything there but forts and camps for our military.
No duh it's biased dude, it's really obvious.
It's simple, it's all about the money.
If you wake up in the morning and read the headlines and see something ordinary, chances are you won't read it. But if they killed 10 people down the street, raped the president, invented a thermonuclear bomb capable of destroying 2 grains of sand, you'll most definetly sit down and read it because it doesn't happen frequently and it's interesting.
Why would they put "US Troops build school in Iraq"? At home, or better put, where their clientele lives, they see a school every 2 streets, so it won't interest them.
America is there for Money. That's all.
Money is what makes the world go round.
Money 1st
People 2nd
The End

No, inertia makes the world go round
The media is run by people.
People are inherently biased.
Therefore the media is biased.
Not that complicated.
Most stories want to catch your attention. I think violence attracts your attention the best. So thats why more stories are about the bad stuff.
I do hear/read a lot about the good things though. If you watch the NEWS parts of fox news you will see (once in awhile) a good story.
The most biased news channel.
Shoulda figured from Chris.
A tip for everyone. I think the most effective way to get unbiased news source is google news.
It's not because their google; it's because all of the news you see there is from different sources. If you want to see another point of view, just click on the related news topics (it's best to read 3 of the same story from different sources).
This way, you get different view points!
Basically, don't stay on one news source. Alternate your sources so you can see all of them!
Chris, I don't watch TV channels for news but from what I've heard, Fox News is extremely biased. Just so you know. (I can't verify but I've heard from almost all different sources)
IMO I don't really see any Bias from Fox. The only thing that I see somehow slightly suggest bias is the fact that they don't bash President Bush for his actions (yet at the same time, I don't see them praise him.)
I like watching Fox news because of all the big newsstations, they're the ones that give out the most real news (like foreign affairs, big things happening domestically, etc,) whereas almost everytime I flip to CNN, they would be talking about Fashion or something totally irrelevant to one's "knowledge gaining" of world politics. Not to mention, It's sometimes fun to watch Bill O'reiley and his guests argue their butts off
Media focuses on tragedy. If something good happens, its not really important. (Reporter: And in other news today, tommy found $100 in the street, cool tommy!)
What they don't really focus on though is the minor things contributing to the war. One rather important thing (in my eyes) that I saw was that the banking systems in afghanistan are much different than those in america. They charge almost no interest. Our country on the other hand survives off of interest. We have lended pretty much every other country money, which we use against them. If we were to pay off our debt to all the other countries we owe money too, (which we could do if we tapped the gold reserves we have) then their economies, which are hobbling along now, would bottom out. Interest rates are probably the most indecent thing humans have come up with, but everyone is so attached to the system we have built, that there is no leaving it. Were not actually in debt, we just don't spend much of what we have, where as other countries rely on us to provide them with money.
most of us read articles like "another huge act of terror" for the same reason some watch moovies like "saw". it's not boring for us. we need some thrill.

The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves only one purpose. It undermines the world's perception of the United States and our soldiers.
This is verifiable on the Department of Defense website.
By Et'sdaddy from another forum.
The media writes like that to give us entertainment. People look for something entertaining not boring. Thats why its always about bombs and death and other things so we will read it.

Example please.
Also, a liberal student sitting at my table was laughing when some one brought up Fox News, and the liberal tells "Haha, Fox news lies all the time its the worst channel haha"
And then I ask him, "When have they lied? Provide one example."
In which he sat there and looked at me and said nothing except "Dude....."
I ask again "Come on, one example!"
Then my friend sitting next to me turns me to him and tells me to drop the case because he can't provide an example and won't change his mind about the matter.
I think its a good real life story about people today.
The only reason why I'd see people think of Fox as biased is because it's more conservative leaning. Normally, the media is controlled by the liberals, so people got accustomed to thinking that a liberal media is normal and that anything else is biased. Fox happens to be the only major news station out there that's not liberal (more conservative.) If Fox is biased because it's right-winged, then so is everything else that's left-winged.
So the only solution, as some people say, is to watch both.
or check the net and find your own news instead of listening to what they have to offer.

Thats what I do usually by browsing google or something I find it better than what major news companies televise.
Don't do yahoo news though. I set it as my home page becuase thats where my email account is. I saw, for just one article, it's title change 3 different times through the day, usually the last one is the most objective one.
I have seen this happen to many articles in Yahoo news headlines.
The media is biased because they want good ratings. Think about it, do you think something neutral will get noticed over something extreme? The media will do anything as to grab your attention.
