when the first 2 men tasted the fruit of knoweledge God sent them from heaven to earth. taht's the bibel's version.

nowadays, does knoledge brings something bad to us ? when scientists managed to split the atom it resulted in 2 a-bombs being dropped, killing thousands of people. knoweledge leads to progress, wich leads to destructive things being created.

so do we get knoweledge by forgetting love/good things in the world ?

Two men? Eve was not a man.

Knowledge is Power, and power can be used in many different ways.

damn, spelled wrong again dry.gif

personally i think we use our power to do more bad & less good.

Well if you consider most communication we use nowadays, let me rephrase, Most of anything we use nowadays as being bad, then your probably right. THe microwave is good, the cellphone is good, the computer is good, they all help us to do things, think about how many times you've used them compared to how many times atom bombs have been used. I don't really think you can argue against improvement.

Well when it comes down to it, its the ones who lack knowledge who seem to do the most harm. (Points at bush)

yes, the microwave is good & useful & atom bombs don't fall on somebody very often, but how about this:

knoweledge leads to progress, & progress led to invention of money. nowadays politicians lie, people in Iraq die, killers kill for money.

allso progress led to creating weapons (like AK47 & it's modifications.)<--& that led to death of much more people than a-bomb explosions(i mean all the weapons in general)

wouldn't we have less sin today if we were living in caves as cavepeople?

well... yeah i think. but everything has a good and bad side. For example, the refrigerator is useful right? that's the good side. But it uses this thing called CFC that damages the ozone layer. That one is the bad side. See my point?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-04-13 at 11:27:21
i see your point & agree that everything has good & bad sides. maybe how people understand this thing depends on how pessimistic/optimistic they are.

I was thinking of something sort of related to this. Before I knew about static electricity, I wasn't ever hesitant of touching the doorknobs. Now I stutter every time tongue.gif

But anyway, not all technology is negative. Some is very helpful :\

Yeah people just have to look at both the negative and positive things. From there decide if it will be helpful or not.

I can agree with that but I think the negative things should be taken into serious concern.

I get what you mean I know everythings not going to be 100% perfect, but get them solved to the best of ability is what I should have said.

true, but in some cases people don't seem to rush & make stuff better. there are not many countries who seriously use the power of wind & water, they prefer nuclear enerygy today.

The mystics and spiritual traditions of the world all acknowledge at least two main paths: the path of knowledge and wisdom (e.g., jnana yoga), and the path of love and devotion (e.g., bhakti yoga). Superficially, it might seem that these paths have little to do with each other. It might even seem that they are incompatible. For example, while the bhakta cultivates a burning fire of love in the heart, the jnani cultivates a calm clarity of discrimination in the intellect. The bhakta overflows with passionate poetry and ecstatic dance, while the jnani expounds profound subtleties of mystical philosophy. In short, the bhakta loves God, while the jnani knows God. These are the superficial stereotypes many of us have inherited. But what is the truth behind these stereotypes? Are the paths of jnana yoga and bhakti yoga actually so different? In this paper, I would like to explore the possibility that jnana and bhakti yogas are not really so different. What I hope will become clear is that Love and Knowledge are not only compatible with each other, but are in essence inseparable.

Surprisingly, that made perfect sense.
But people will always consider love and knowledge different things, even on such a ground level like in school...love = flirt, knowledge = nerd, can't really have both, people's minds just sorta separate them, whether because of society or naturally, they separate them.

Dunno how to fix that, but, in the world today, I doubt that what one person does will really make a difference in this type of thing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-04-16 at 10:44:33
people seperate love & knoledge becawse society is getting more primitive. but still there are peopel who don't seperate them.

i admit to a certain toint, that knoweledge is beauty (would you want your girlfriend to be dumb like a rock?)

but as some with the help of knoweledge discuss & philosophize, others create things that will destroy, so there is allways a dark side.

the atom-bomb example in post 1 was flawed IMO, cuz by making the japanese surrender they acualy saved thousands of lives.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-04-18 at 07:16:43
you can't say that for sure, becawse you can't change it. maybe a huge tsunamy would crush their cities the next day & no a-bomb would be needed ? maybe they could make an operation to assasinate their commanders ? maybe even if they would fight, they would make an great plan & loose less men compared to the casualties from the 2 a explosions ?

i made that example just to obviously show how destructive knoledge can be.

People should read the poems Icarus Allsorts and Siren Song.

You can think of knowledge as a sword. You can use that sword of knowldge to do good things (help cure sick people, or invent an energy-saving microwave), or you can use that sword to do bad things (dropping atom bombs on innocent refugees just so we can laugh when they all pop like Terran Marines... er... I mean, are vaporized like Zealots?).

Knowledge and love are completely different, in my opinion. Knowledge is factual, it's solid, it's what it is, if you don't like it... well, too bad for you. Love is more wishy-washy, it can change on you over night, or it can spring up on you while you're thinking about your GF while taking a dump in a public restroom of a shopping mall food court.
