Greetings!
As most of you know, there is currently a mass of tournaments going on. Everyone and their grandmother is hosting some form of 1:1 tournament with, most with a nice amount of prize money. For nearly a year, TANL has been just that. But, in this fourth episode of our breastful series, there will be changes. We will let you guess what these changes are based on things you might have read, surveys you might have answered, and polls you may have voted on. For now, suffice it to say that we need your help. In a continuing effort to promote a unique tournament, one that stands out from the rest, we will be using user-created maps for the fourth TANL. If this works out, the map pool will be made up of exclusively user-created maps. Maps will be judged by Team Areola, with input from some good players regarding balance and such. There will also be a popular vote on our website, so that the BW community has a word on the matter.
What we want:
Ideally, we will be accepting three* 4-player maps and two* 2-player maps and ranking them. However, if you will only be submitting one map, we'd suggest you submit a 4-player one.
* - Note: If there are many good maps submitted, we will use those. Quantities are variable.
If your map is accepted, you will be expected to work with us and other good players to work out balance and gameplay problems in the game. Also, anyone can submit any number of maps.
We are looking for:
- Creative, unique maps
- Maps that will provide for a different style of gameplay, or accentuate the importance in various elements of one's game
- Well-balanced island maps (if that is even possible)
Map contest deadline:
May 1st, 19:00 EST
Prizes/reward:
1st / 4-player map: $20
2nd / 4-player map: $10
1st / 2-player map: $10
This money is only payable by PokerStars. If you want the money by other means, you will have to use a friend to conduct the electronic transfer.
You will also be invited to observe the group phase, and certain tournament stage matches.
Submissions:
If you're enticed by the idea, please send your map to o2@teamareola.com with TANL Map Contest in the title. Please include:
- an unlocked melee version of the map
- a .jpg of the map
- the unique element(s) you think the map provides, anything we might like to know
- your AIM/MSN and an email address you check (tell us if it's the one you're sending it from).
- in the map file name, include (2) or (4) to indicate the number of players for the map
We hope to receive your maps soon!

It's impossible to host an official UMS contest. Eventually, it all comes down to bias. There is no set standard for a UMS map, whereas melee maps there is one.

Yes, PokerStars. Probably because it's free to sign up to PokerStars and they don't take a cut in transfers. Better than using PayPal bullshiz.
