Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> Simple Picture Change, Cant find file
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dark_Marine_123 on 2006-04-15 at 01:36:41
Ok my problem is simple, I don't know which file contains the Mineral and Gas pictures in the top right of the screen while playing a map. Any help will be appriciated, just a simple file name in the MPQ will do.

But while we're at that, does anyone know if the menu, diplo, and chatting buttons can be changed? O.o

I don't know what are the names of the resource icons, but all meniu graphics and even the layout can be changed.

you can change the menues and stuff with BinEdit, just dont get it confused with IceCC since it doesn't edit iscripts

I cant even figure which bin file that thing uses...or where it is ermm.gif

It loads any bin file except iscript.bin

the files it will load are all in the rez\ folder

ADDITION: seems the other link to it doesn't work...try this one instead

The icons at the top of the screen are stored in game\icons.grp IIRC. It's a file that RetroGRP can't convert, beacuse the file isn't a normal .grp file - it's an older graphics type used by Blizzard in WarCraft I (called Alpha GFX in the knowledge bases for it).

There is no tool for converting that (as well as a few other Alpha GFX files in StarCraft). I am planning on creating such a tool - I just need to get some freetime. You'll have to wait tongue.gif

Heres how I think its used (havn't used it much)

step 1. open the file
step 2. open properties box
step 3. scroll properties box to the right untill you get to the button you want to change
step 4. change properties to whatever you want

In the top of the properties box, there is a horizontal scroll bar. You pick what item to select by moving that left and right...

It's not very obvious or clear, but it does work.... ShadowFlare has lost the source code of BinEdit, so there's no way to fix it either, without reprogramming it.

In my current development version of grpapi, I've just barely added support for displaying those Alpha GFX images. They were pretty easy to figure out; they are basically uncompressed grp files. In a later release I'm going to add support for creating regular compressed grp files and those uncompressed ones.

As for BinEdit, I'm not sure if I want to recreate it or not. If I do it will probably use actual Starcraft fonts, and not just try to use a close alternative like the current one does, and would probably support rendering the pcx files straight from the mpq archives.

That would be awesome. Bins are the badass of SC modding, and only the best of the best played with them succesfully...

Also, if I did make a new version, that "tool window" would actually be functional. I should have had that hidden until I actually used it for something... It has confused many people, I think. I originally intended on eventually having it so you could reposition and add things by clicking and dragging them in the preview window.

Is the file format complete for the bins in question here?

There are some individual values that I didn't figure out.

However, that BinEdit is inadequate equipment.
at the least way, that had to showed objects list with text what object is contained in Bin files

ShadowFlare, if u would recreat or creat toally new stuff of Editing Bin file
i think if creat as like Html Easy work Editor(such as Dreamweaver..etc) then that would be better
