Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Creating Scanner Sweeps
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Elven_Fury on 2004-07-22 at 05:10:10
for my WAR OF THE RING mapping project I want:

Conditions:
player 6(mordor) brings atleast 1 Nasgul to location Froto

Conditions:
create 1 scanner sweep for player 6 at Froto
wait 5000
Preserve trig

Froto is a DT and as in the movies when ever he has the ring on the naz should be able to see him so can you create scanner sweeps or do i have to resort to a computer observer with shared vision following him?

if you can create scanner sweeps then why isnt this trigger working?

Im pretty sure you can't create a scanner sweeps with triggers.

Nope you cant.
BTW His name is Frodo

darn

is there another way to let mordor see just frodo (dt) when he brings a nazgul near without having the observer there

Very easier and more convenient than a scanner sweep.
Make an observer on top of Frodo and have him move around Mordor as if it were the eye of Sauron.
To make observer like scanner sweep just create it and after like 10 seconds remove the observer.

Edit: I didn't read you don't wanted an observer. Observer is only way unless you want overlord or sci vessel.

Edit2: You can make Frodo vision Mordor for some time, but isn't as conveniant and it would reveal everything that that player owns.

A photon cannon, spore colony or turret will work too. Also an overmind tongue.gif

A spider mine dont detect, just kill cloaked units wink.gif

Be best if you just use observer, it's barely noticeable during gameplay and people will pay more attention to gameplay than the blur on the screen.
Unless they idiotic noobs.

Spider Mines kill all units but don't detect, you can make spider mines hit 1 dmg and you know where frodo is, you just can't directly see them.
Observers are better.

have a location centered on frodo, fairly big, adn if the enemy unit thingy that sees him goes to taht location, move all observers at the place to move to the location (may not work if theres more than one obs)...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2004-07-22 at 11:49:50
just create 1 obs and remove it and theyll see a little flash of frodo and do it like every 5 seconds tongue.gif

An alternate solution would be to have the nazguls belong to an allied computer, and move/attack-move to the "Eye of Sauron" (flying unit), and have frodo share vision with the computer. That way, you can control the nazguls, but they're the only units that can hit Frodo when he has the ring. Otherwise, you can see Frodo and just tell some orcs to kill him. Nothing else should be able to cloak, and the enemies shouldn't have detectors.

I thoguht something like that but i didn't had it figured out in my mind, it was a loose thought.
Anyways yes this will also work nicely.

i just got an idea i could have a gun trap under he that is allied to him but visions mordor, but if i remember correctly from map tips and tricks archive that to make a unit go slow have a burrowed ling under them, would the trap slow him down? don't want that

what unit are the Nazgul

Nah, i really don't think that would work fairyly well since that will reveal everything that the player with Frodo sees and you only want to see Frodo, not buildings, allies and stuff.

I still go with my observer idea.

No, it doesn't. Have you played Starcraft yet?? oO

It will reveal what units that player owns. NOT allies. Besides this is that eye thingy it should be able to see everything shouldn't it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-07-22 at 19:22:05
I meant allies and everything in players vision, mostly in those games they bunched up toghether.

Anyways, the eye of mordor can only see one spot.

WTF why hasn't anyone suggested this yet?
Have a computer that's shared vision with the Nazgul's controller.
When a Nazgul comes within a certain distance of Frodo, a cloaked unit appears near Frodo that is allied to everyone but the above mentioned computer.
This cloaked unit will attack, causing that comp to cast a Scanner Sweep, if possible. Since it shares vision with Nasgul, Nasgul will be able to see Frodo.
It uses 2 computer players, but simple nonetheless.

It's too bad that blinding removes ability to detect as well as lowering the view range.. a blinded observer that just showed a little circle of area around frodo would be cool tongue.gif
Just thinking though.. what if Frodo was controlled by an observer (owned by the human) and it led around a computer controlled cloaked unit with shared vision to Mordor? It wouldn't be perfect for Frodo but it might be ok as long as the triggers to share and unshare vision worked properly.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Elven_Fury on 2004-07-22 at 20:26:33
the problem with most of what you guys are saying is that every one is a human player

anyways i decided to just use an observer

admin you can close this topic

Too much work, and too many things could go wrong. Oh, and the fact that every player is being used.
