I've been lately seeing many newcomers with the Advanced Map Making skill showing up. Some are actually advanced but most are just Average or beginners.

The thing is some newcomers come in and put advanced, thinking that it will make you look better. They come in to Staredit assistance and ask for help, which is fine, but the questions some of them ask are like beginnerish.

None means you only know how to open a map editor
Begginer means you know how to use basic triggers and stuff
Average is you know how to use all the triggers and you got a couple of tricks up your sleve
Advanced means your top of the line, you know almost all the tricks and you know how to properly use players 13 and above

Lately I've been seeing many people with "Advanced" setting, but really they just average like everyone else.

Here the number of users who actually are advanced does not exceed 20.
Most of us are only average.

This is not regarding so that you put advanced thinking your the best, I put it because if you put the correct map making level, we may help you properly and make you understand better. It's not good seeing someone with Advanced asking for something about Hyper Triggers or Random Switches.

Have to agree with you there, Beerkeg. You're dead right. I have seen a lot of new people put advanced. Howerver, they seem to change it back after maybe a week or two when they see how much knowledge certain people have.

I think its because they think they're pros but then they realize the cant do the more advanced triggers.

Thats pretty much my point.
I would be advanced but i know i still can learn some stuff, so i put average.

everyone can learn more stuff, it's how fast you can understand the "advanced" triggerings that tells you what level you are. wink.gif

I'd put advanced if not for my tendency to just try to think of ways of bettering the current map types(instead of making new ones or creating whole new ways of playing them, like Tux did with Trigger Happy D).
And if I weren't so lazy.

I personally think its fine the way it is.

I think your saying that on the system we use for mapmaking skill.
I agree with that Yoshi.

Thing is that some newcomers don't interpret the system correctly and put advanced while they're actually average or beginners. They should read this post or the sticky in the other forum and know what rank they trully are.

We have already discussed that issue previously. Site staff and high level map makers helped decide on this system.

It doesn't need changing.

Whats the big deal? It states that the mapmaking level is for there own benifit. If they need things explained at a beginner level then they should put beginner.

Besides none doesn't refer to a mapmaking level. It is for members who are not interested or do not make maps. Like FireKame, who doesn't play starcraft.

Hey this gave me an idea. Why don't you make a new rating system so others can actually rate their map making skill. This way, we will see who knows what they talk about, and who doesn't.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-07-22 at 19:27:52
Thats an ecxellent idea.
Better others to rate you than to rate yourself, when you rate yourself sometimes your not honest.

But then again, some people will abuse of this, but at SEN i don't know anyone that might do this.

Yes, but if you rate yourself you usally rate higher.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-07-22 at 20:07:52
"The following error has occurred:
You cannot rate yourself"
Or soemthing like that.

Yoshi won't go for that idea smile.gif The point of the system is so others can see what level you are and determan how to help you. If your new to the forums no one knows you and therefore it would not be able have a map rateing. So people wouldn't know how basic or indepth there help should be. As yoshi says putting a higher level than you are only hurts yourself smile.gif

Or thats what i think anyways lol

It does. I dont explain things as well to advanced then I do to beginners. Saves me loads of time.
