Staredit Network -> Music & Sound -> Early 90's Hip Hop, far better then recent hiphop

Man I love old school early 90's, basicly it was 200% better then 'hip-hop' today, spare some of our underground shiz.

Ghetto Boyz
tupac
De La Soul
KRS-1

Basicly today there is a lot of good hip hop out, but zero in the mainstreem. Some recent hip hoppers that come to mind are Cunning Lynguists, Blackalicious, Del (he' in a lot of different groups,) Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Hieroglyphics, IAM (crazy frenchmen,) Masta Ace, People under the stairs.

Im willing to bet half of those artist are unknown to Bf and most of the public.

Here's some recent stuff I bet everyone knows, that is pure shiz. Pure shiz, and I know this will offend some of you.

50 Cent, has some catchy beats I'll admit, but his content and attitude is shiz...

Lil John, zero talent, knows how to make fat beats, THATS IT

And prety much anything you have heard on the radio rap/hip hop wise is crap. I get amazed by the sheer number of white boyz that get into all the pop rap out nowaday. Prety much no one hard listens to today's 'gangster rap.' Anyone slightly 'gangster' ive met is still rocking the oldies like Tupac and old Dre stuff.

What do you guys think?

Gangsta rap is hilarious, espeicially old school. Anyone who hates it, has no taste in comedy.

Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Big Tymers and Papoose are pretty good, and somewhat new, but your right they ain't no Jay-Z.

Chamillionaire isn't bad right now, but your right, most of the old stuff IS better. No one could ever compare to Tupac though. Here's my top 5 list.

1. Tupac
2. Biggie
3. Jay-z
4. Nas
5. Dr.Dre/Ice Cube

I agree that early 90s rap (And late 80s) was better. But Tupac is not one of those people, it's a mix of what rap is today and what it was. But since I hate new rap so much he goes under the "bad" area of Rap. I liked Public Enemy, and some of NWA.

donwano's top 5:
1.) DMX
2.) 2Pac
3.) Snoop Dogg
4.) Dr. Dre
5.) Ice Cube

There's no room for Biggie in my top 5. Personally I don'y really like his songs.

But I say that late 90's rap was the best. That's when DMX released my favorite of his albums.

I hate rap/hiphop music that's played on the Hit music stations. I do not, however, mind the ones played on stations exclusively for hiphop. Sometimes, if I think a song is soooo bad, I like it.

I think you're forgetting that ICE ICE BABY was early 90's 'hiphop'. So was MC hammer, but I like him because it's hilarious to think that music like that was once considered 'hip hop'. So was "Don't copy that floppy" but I won't touch on that at all.

Im going to his concert tommorrow biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Also many of you guys are posting the same "underground artirts" while they are underground well, learn some new artists biggrin.gif

Also, I find it extremely funny when I ask somebody what they listen to and they say like "gangsta rap" and I ask like who, usually they respond like this: "You know gangsta rap, like ying yang twins, 50 cent, mike jones, lil john, dipset, etc etc."

1. Wu-Tang Clan
Started back in the early ninetys as a group, check out wutangcorp.com, there are about 50 artists in the "Wu-Fam" pretty much all of them are good although there music might be hard to obtain. Reccomended Albums: 36 Chambers, Greatest Hits

2. Rakim
A lyrical genious whos rhymes are pretty much amazing but many havent even heard of him. Album: The Master.

3. GZA (The Genius)
An amazing rapper who is part of the Wu-Tang origional nine, has really dark and deep music on his later records. On his older reccords it has the more old school feel to it.
Reccomended Albums: Liquid Swords, Words from the Ge
nius.

4. RZA (Rizzarecta),(Bobby Digital)
Yet another rapper from the Wu-Tang Clan, has really thought provoking music if you really listen to the lyrics. Has a similair style to GZA but his songs arent as dark. Reccomended Albums: Formula for the Cure, Birth of a prince.

5. Ice Cube
A solid rapper origionally from NWA, broke off to go onto solo records. Has some pretty cool raps. Reccomended Albums: AmeriKKKas most wanted, Death Certificate.
6. Eazy-E
Started NWA, has a unique high pitched voice and some solid raps.
Reccomended Albums: Eternal E

7. N.W.A.
Started the entire gangsta rap scene.
Reccomended Albums: Straight Outta Compton

8. Run D.M.C.
The ones who got rap into the mainstream, combined rock and rap and made it sound awsome. Has the real old school feel to it.
Reccomended Albums: Raising Hell, Run DMC

9. Andre Nickatina
Underground rapper from the bay area, has some dope lyrics and some ok beats.
Definatly worth a look.
Reccomended Albums: I currently dont know any of his albums. mellow.gif

10. See Number One.
